Job Summary

This position provides strategic vision and leadership for the campus library and multi-disciplinary academic support labs. The Director works effectively with faculty, administrators, and staff across the campus in support of the College’s mission by facilitating student support services. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities
    Provides leadership to the campus library and academic support labsPrepares and maintains departmental budgetsHires, supervises and evaluates personnel Keeps abreast of current trends and best practices in information literacy and instructional technologyEnsures the effective implementation of the faculty advancement process and adheres to the collective bargaining agreement Develops course schedules and faculty assignments Oversees strategic planning, acquisition strategies, continued development of computer-based library systems and servicesArticulates the selection of instructional software titles with department chairs and other campus laboratory managersCollaborates with other departments in developing special programs and eventsEnsures user compliance with College computing policiesResolves issues that may arise with students, faculty, and staffDefines problems, collects data, and valid conclusions when preparing reportsServes on Campus and College-wide committeesParticipates in the development and implementation of the College policies, procedures, and guidelinesParticipates in Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and other Accreditation processes
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library Science/Information Science from an American Library Association Accredited School (ALA) or related field and five (5) years of management experience at a higher education institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and proceduresKnowledge of the requirements of accreditation agencies especially the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Skill in budget preparation and management Ability to implement new technologies in order to maintain up to date systems and processesExcellent organizational skills Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
