Assistant Athletics Trainer, Student-Athlete Health & Wellness, Hoya Athletics Georgetown University

Assistant Athletics Trainer, Student-Athlete Health & Wellness, Hoya Athletics - Georgetown University

The Assistant Athletics Trainer provides student-athletes with injury and illness evaluations, referrals, care, treatment, and rehabilitation in accordance with the Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures and the NATA Code of Professional Conduct. Reporting to the Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Health & Wellness, the Assistant Athletics Trainer has duties that include but are not limited to:

Health & Wellness
  • Provide student-athletes with initial injury and illness evaluations, referrals, follow-up evaluations, wound care, injury treatment, emergency cardiac care with AED and other emergency care, injury rehabilitation, taping and bracing, and over the counter medicines
  • Provide treatments such as include electrical stimulation, microcurrent stimulation, ultrasound, therapeutic massage, cryotherapy (cold whirlpool, ice pack, ice massage), and thermotherapy (warm whirlpool, hydrocollator)
  • Perform injury rehabilitation and reconditioning, including therapeutic exercise such as theraband strengthening, core stability training, re-education of joint kinesthesia and proprioception, muscular reeducation, and isotonic and isokinetic strengthening
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of medical records and injury documentation for each student-athlete treated
  • Tape and brace for musculoskeletal injuries

Trainer for Sports as Assigned
  • Effectively carry out all necessary athletic training duties - for example, practice and competition coverage, emergency and non-emergency medical care, injury evaluation, documentation and rehabilitation
  • As required, be present at home and away competitions and practices

Administration as Assigned
  • Manage inventory and purchasing
  • Coordinate processing of student-athlete health insurance claims with the Athletics Business Office
  • Organize student-athlete physicals
  • Administer the drug education program
  • Manage the student worker program

  • Bachelor's degree - Master's degree preferred
  • Current NATABOC certification
  • Meet criteria for certification as established by the NATA with respect to CEUs
  • Ability to work confidently in a crisis or emergency situation and to demonstrate knowledge of safety practices
  • Knowledge of University and Hoya Athletics philosophies, policies and regulations
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
  • Proficiency in use of computer use and relevant Microsoft applications
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record and insurability
  • Willingness and availability weekends and evenings
