The Scholars for Excellence in Child Care Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and providing technical assistance to child care providers and assisting them in obtaining their Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Certificate of Mastery, Director’s Certificate of Completion, and/or an associate degree in child development. An employee in this position will also assist recruited students in applying for financial aid and scholarships, monitor the progress, and provide assistance or arrange for assistance in completing the certificate or degree as needed. The duties of this position are pursuant to a contract between Oklahoma City Community College (OCCC) and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. The contractual period ends June 30 of each year. Continuation of this position is dependent on renewal of the contract and satisfactory performance in the position.

Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.

Five years full time work experience with child care or Head Start programs, or other early childhood related field.

Demonstrated human relation skills that result in positive and effective communication with public and colleagues.

Demonstrated skills in teaching and caring for young children, 0-6 years of age, or in supervising other adults who care for young children, 0-6 years of age.

Computer Skills; Word – Expert, Excel – Advanced, Outlook – Expert, and Power Point – Advanced

Valid Driver’s license.

Ability to pass a background verification with no convictions by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

1. GENERAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Light work: The person in this position may occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to grasp, lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

This position requires the person to frequently communicate with and listen to clients, students, faculty, staff, administration, and others to perform the essential functions of the position. Must be able to exchange accurate information in various situations.

This position requires the person to frequently operate a computer, other office machinery, and mobile devices to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently operate equipment that involves repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

This position requires the person to frequently move about the CDCLS office, OCCC campuses, and off-site outreach locations to perform the essential functions of the position.

This position requires the person to frequently remain in a standing and stationary position.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to move, lift, grasp, materials/equipment and/or to instruct or assist students and clients.

This position requires the person to use upper and lower body to exert force up to 20 pounds to grasp, push, pull or lift materials or equipment.

This position requires the person to frequently position self to access materials that may be above head or at ground level.

This position requires the person to perceive attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

3. VISUAL ACUITY:
This position requires the person to judge, observe and assess the accuracy, neatness, thoroughness of work assigned or to make general observations.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position’s essential functions are performed indoors and outdoors.

The person in this position will be exposed to infectious diseases.

Knowledge of the CDA Credential, Child Development Certificate of Mastery, Director’s Certificate of Completion, and associate degree in child development.

The hours of the Scholars Coordinator may include daytime, evening, and some weekend hours. On-campus office hours and site visits are included in weekly schedules.

Develop materials for recruiting childcare providers in the service area for the CDA Credential, Certificate of Mastery, Director’s Certificate of Completion, and/or associate degree program.

Make cold calls on childcare facilities as part of recruitment efforts, expecting to spend two days per week recruiting and visiting program participants.

Coordinate college pre-assessment tests for program participants.

Serve as an academic advisor to program participants and assist them with financial-aid, Scholars program scholarship and college admission and enrollment.

Develop an individual program plan with each program participant.

Provide technical assistance to program participants at their work site.

Tutor or arrange for tutoring for program participants in the areas where help is needed.

Refer participants to other OCCC support services as needed.

Serve as a liaison between program participants and faculty.

Develop and maintain constructive working relations with administration, faculty and applicable college departments.

Provide the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education (OSRHE) with program information each semester and as needed.

Attend staff development activities coordinated through the OSRHE Scholars program, the Department of Human Services and as required by OCCC.

Manage and monitor program budget.

Submit quarterly invoices as required; submit an annual report to OSRHE and OCCC.

Other duties as outlined in the Scholars Program Guidebook and by the OSRHE Special Programs Director.

Abide by the policies and procedures published in the Board of Regents Policies and College Policies & Procedures.

Contribute to a safe educational & working environment.

Adhere to established safety and health procedures and practices of providing injury and illness prevention for self and others.

Complete quarterly health and safety training pursuant to OCCC’s established safety and health procedures and practices.

Participate in all applicable OCCC emergency, evacuation, shelter in place drills, and be prepared to take action and assist others in taking appropriate action should a health or safety emergency occur.

This position has been identified as having significant responsibility for student and campus activities. The individual holding this position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are required to report crimes they become aware of to the Reporting Structure at Oklahoma City Community College. Annual CSA training is required for individuals holding this position.
