General Summary

Assist in developing, planning, implementing and evaluating developmentally appropriate classroom activities for a
specific age group of young children. Assist in supervising, training and evaluating student staff.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with the implementation of developmentally appropriate classroom activities in a classroom of a specific age
group of young children.
Assist with classroom management and discipline.
Model appropriate classroom teaching practices
In the absence of Primary Teacher, assume those responsibilities
Assist in the supervision, training, and evaluating of student employees and volunteers.
Assist in organizing and maintaining a safe, attractive, and stimulating developmentally appropriate classroom
learning environment.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences, as necessary.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with children and families.
Support policies and goals of the Children's Institute; participate in in-service training sessions, research and special
projects as needed.
Adhere to Department of Human Services Bureau of Children and Adult Licensing regulations and the National
Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation standards.
Perform related Departmental duties, as required.

Qualifications

Knowledge of early childhood education, typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's degree in Early
Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field, is required.
One year early childhood teaching experience is required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with very young children, parents and staff.

For a full-time GA appointment, the University provides a tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours in each academic year (September 1 to August 31) of the assistantship.

For graduate assistants who are appointed to part-time positions and for GAs who begin employment after the start of the semester, the number of credit hours covered by the award will be prorated.

The report also contains information about crime statistics for the three most recent calendar years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus; in On-Campus Student Housing Facilities; in Noncampus buildings or property owned or controlled by the University or a recognized student organization; and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from, the campus. The report also contains fire statistics for any fires occurring in an On-Campus Student Housing Facility during the three most recent calendar years.
