Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Department of Human Resources at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) serves students, faculty, staff, and other constituencies on the campus. We deliver proactive and innovative HR services and solutions through the attraction, retention, engagement, and continual development of a talented and diverse workforce to focus on UNCG’s core mission of student success. Position Summary:

Human Resources is currently seeking qualified candidates to consider for the Human Resources Specialist (Operation Specialist) position. The primary purpose of this position is to administer and provide oversight in the processing of permanent/temporary employees and undergraduate student positions and employee actions. This includes transactional processing of new hires, terminations, leave adjustments/payouts, changes in FTE, salary and labor distributions, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

BACHELOR’S DEGREE; OR EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE. ALL DEGREES MUST BE RECEIVED FROM APPROPRIATELY ACCREDITED INSTITUTIONS.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with Banner HR and data management in a higher education environment.
  • Possess the ability to process and manage high volumes of data entry transactions.
  • Ability to interpret and stay abreast of state and federal Human Resources policies and HR procedures.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient independent problem-solver with knowledge of leave management.
  • Ability to develop solid collaborative relationships with all HR staff and clients.

Key Responsibility:

Process Management- Develops and monitors processes and organizes resources to achieve desired results.


Essential Tasks:

  • Administer and manage the processing of EPAF’s and paper transactions for permanent, temporary, and undergraduate student hires, i.e. setting up jobs for pay, changes in classifications and salary, changes in labor distribution, changes in FTE, and terminations.
  • Ensure pay actions are validated for an accurate and timely payroll each month with the utilization of system reports.
  • Responsible for successful completion of all payroll processes with each monthly payroll cycle. This includes researching over-payments and underpayments; to include research and correct errors found during the monthly payroll process.
  • Effectively communicates and coordinates with other stakeholders in the process.
  • Evaluates efficiency and effectiveness of resources utilization and results accomplishment
  • Establishes clear well-defined processes necessary to achieve the desired outcomes

  • Identifies and addresses process problems promptly and follows through to ensure that corrective or recommended process updates are effectively implemented.

  • Consult and research with staff and campus departments regarding payroll actions, processes, policies, and procedures through clear written and/or verbal lines of communication.
  • Act as backup for leave pay actions/adjustments and MCD allowance, longevity pay, dual employment, and special pay assignments.
  • Primary backup/support assistance for operational functional duties, including banner testing/upgrades, reporting, and uploads.
  • Work closely with other Operational Specialists and HR Consultants to provide consistent and uniform services to our campus users.
