The Director of Academic Advising & Retention reports to the Dean of Student Services and is responsible for improving the quality of academic advising by providing information, advice and assistance to students, directs the activities of the advising department. Minimum Qualifications:
Communicate with the campus regarding student experiences and concerns. Stay abreast of the research, theories, legislation policies, technology, and developments that affect services provided by the Advising Department. Support and assist advisors in management of special projects, i.e. Scholarship Program, New Student Orientation, Scholarship Program, Disability Services, International Students, and other campus programs. Institutional planning duties for the advising office. Participate in Student Services Departmental staff meetings. Supervise and educate Academic Advisors, Faculty Advisors, Scholarship Coordinator and Coordinator of Disability Services. Assign users for advising in Banner. Provide access to continuing and advanced education and appropriate professional development opportunities to improve the leadership ability, competence, and skills of all employees. Participate in local, state, and/or national professional associations. Participates in the graduation ceremony and supports other campus events and activities.
Requires a Master’s degree in education, guidance, counseling, student development, or related discipline. Requires three years experience providing effective academic advising to students in higher education.

Preference given to candidates with three or more years of advising experience in public two year colleges. Familiarity with TSIA and other Texas Higher Education requirements. SALARY :
