THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN.

 

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, this position confers with University of Tennessee Internal Medicine affiliated and outside offices to provide patient referral appointments to specialists who provide proper diagnosis and treatment. Ensures referrals are within the guidelines of the patient’s insurance company specifications and requirements.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Schedules patient's appointment with specialist, per Internal Medicine physician request.Verifies patient insurance coverage and follows the insurance company's policies for referral to specialist.Confirms patient's eligibility to visit University of Tennessee Internal Medicine specialists, such as dermatologists and psychiatrists.Conveys referrals to patients, insurance company, specialists, and Primary Care Physicians at UT Internal Medicine Center.Updates and maintains accurate EMR records.Attains records and faxes to specialists as needed. Advises nursing and MD staff of changes to insurance companies’ referral policies, as they occur.Assists nurses with answering phone calls from physician offices and patients.Performs other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  

EDUCATION:  High School diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of work experience in a medical office. (Experience as a nurse assistant desired. Knowledge of medical billing preferred). 

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Current licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in the state of Tennessee preferred. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)       

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Ability to maintain constant contact with patient's primary insurance carrier.Ability to adhere to insurance carrier's policies, procedures, and protocols regarding the referral of the patient to a specialist. Excellent communication skills.Knowledge of medical terminology and medical vocabulary. Knowledge of Microsoft office suite required. Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.Ability to coordinate care for patients, within and outside providers.
