Job Description Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Manager of Alumni Engagement will organize and implement a comprehensive, strategic alumni engagement program to include the creation and execution of programs and activities leading alumni regionally and locally to connect more deeply with the University and to give philanthropically. They will deliver the Alumni Compact through all activities while working with campus partners. They will identify key alumni for deeper connection. They will work with that group to cultivate personal relationships, so they will become more involved and engaged with the university.

Responsibilities:

Engagement and Development Strategy and Programming

  • Assist in the development and implement an engagement strategy with goals, objectives, and tactics to sustain and grow alumni connection, leading to greater philanthropic support.
  • Develop and implement targeted activities and programs that provide opportunities for alumni to make deep connections with the University and each other, while building a philanthropic culture for alumni with the University, including the implementation and growth of Regional and Affinity-based Chapters, 50-Year Club reunion/activities, and participation in Chapman’s signature alumni events.
  • Ensure the Alumni Compact adherence through all Alumni Engagement activities.
  • Support and strategically collaborate with other campus partners for engagement and annual giving (Including Strategic Engagement and Development, Strategic Marketing and Communications, Career and Professional Development, Volunteer Engagement, Fish Interfaith Center, and others, including faculty and staff from every school and college.)
  • Ensure all communication portals to alumni are integrated, timely and relevant.
  • Establish and implement a process for evaluating activity effectiveness, and while tracking activity participation using CASE Metrics for the university.
  • Identify, cultivate, and create personal relationships with approximately 100-125 specific alumni to help develop further participation where they will become more involved and engaged with the university.

General Administrative and Team Participation
  • Collaborate with Strategic Engagement and Development staff in the implementation of and participation with various Chapman Family engagement efforts.
  • Provide support to all University Advancement cultivation events as needed.
  • Manage student workers
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience of successful non-profit management and/or management of volunteer experiences, social services environment, human resource management.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising resources, techniques and strategies. Proven ability to motivate and manage individuals and groups of staff or volunteers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with diverse individuals and groups at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the University.
  • Experience in outreach to constituents of all types, ages, and from diverse cultures, including students, people with disabilities, businesses, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, maintain and strengthen relationships with alumni locally and regionally on behalf of an organization.
  • Special events planning, coordination and management experience
  • Strong writing and editing skills including the ability to prepare clear, concise, and grammatically correct business correspondence and other documents.
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and implement multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and exercise discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Strong ability to evaluate data, assess alternatives and formulate logical and sound decisions and/or recommendations.
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy and to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Computer skills in utilizing Microsoft Office software and technical ability to learn and use enterprise software (SalesForce, PeopleSoft) and other data management systems.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic fundraising resources, techniques and strategies
  • Familiarity with Chapman University a plus.
