Job Description:


POSITION: Part-Time Student Ambassador: Peer Ambassador; Institutional Effectiveness Non-Unit Professional Position; 15 hours per week; Temporary Grant Funded Position through August 1, 2022; Haverhill campus.


Summary: Up to twelve students will be selected to join the team of paid NECC Student Ambassadors for the 2021-2022 Academic Year. The position will focus on answering student questions pertaining to online learning, proactively contacting an assigned student caseload via text message, and contacting students that are disengaged in their classes. Students will be selected to represent their Academic Division of the college (Health Sciences, STEM, Liberal Arts, Business, Professional Studies).


RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Developing an introductory video for assigned students
  • Using a chat, email, phone, text, and/or Zoom to respond to student questions about how to use Blackboard
  • Conducting proactive outreach to students that have been reported by faculty as not engaging with their online class
  • Passing off advanced issues to appropriate areas of the college (IT, Library Support, Academic Coaching)
  • Identify opportunities to improve online student success through:
  • Marketing and other materials
  • Social media
  • Navigate content
  • Attending training for two weeks prior to the start of the semester (15 hours/week, beginning August 16, 2021)
  • Reporting timesheets electronically and activities to the Interim Director of Institutional Effectiveness


Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Comfort with all modes of communication (email, texting, phone, Zoom, chat, Navigate)
  • Eagerness to help other NECC students succeed
  • Willingness to ask questions when stuck

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Successful completion of at least one online course at NECC
  • Must be a student in good standing
  • Must have completed 15 credits at NECC
  • Must have and maintain a 2.70 GPA
  • Bilingual and Spanish speakers encouraged to apply
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse, urban population in a Hispanic-Serving Institution

Organization

Northern Essex Community College, with campuses in Haverhill

and Lawrence, Massachusetts, was designated as New England’s

first Hispanic Serving Institution in 2001. We serve approximately

5,000 students each semester in the beautiful, historic Merrimack

Valley region of northeast Massachusetts.

Our suburban Haverhill campus sits on over a hundred pastoral

acres near Kenoza Lake and features the David Hartleb Technology

Center, the award-winning Behrakis Student One-Stop Center,

and more than $20 million in recent classroom and student area

Our urban Lawrence campus is centered around the new, stateof-

state parks along the coast and to nearby mountains, lakes, and ski

resorts in Maine and New Hampshire.
