The Stanford Vision and Perception Neuroscience Lab (vpnl.stanford.edu) within the Department of Psychology is seeking a full-time Lab Manager/Research Coordinator (RC).

The RC will participate in NIH-funded research to examine the development of high-level visual areas from childhood to adulthood. The position will expose the applicant to multiple types of imaging data and computational analyses approaches. As such, it is particularly suited for a recent graduate from a Neuroscience, Psychology, Symbolic Systems, or Computer Science program who is seeking to work in an innovative research environment in preparation for graduate school in Neuroscience/Psychology/Medicine/Computer Science.

The work will involve scheduling and conducting behavioral and MRI scans in children and adults; designing, programming, and analyzing behavioral and MRI data including modeling; participating in lab meetings and research seminars. The RC will also provide technical support for lab personnel such as maintaining code and conduct administrative duties such as ordering and tracking supplies and compiling information for IRB reviews.

We seek an organized, self-motivated, independent, and reliable individual with strong computational skills, who can also work as part of a team. The position requires a bachelor's degree in either cognitive science, neuroscience, biology, computer science, psychology, engineering, physics, or math. Coding proficiency in Matlab or python is preferred. The applicant should have good teamwork skills and evidence of serious interest in a career in neuroscience, psychology, medicine, or computer science.

This is a one year fixed term position with possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.

Core Duties:

Prepare correspondence, documents and reports.
  • Assist with the screening, recruiting, and obtaining consent of study participants. Perform telephone or in-person interviews to gather data, as needed. Schedule and/or call subjects for appointments.
  • Prepare, distribute, administer and process questionnaires and tests, score test measurements and questionnaires, and code data for computer entry. Perform
  • Apply formulas and calculations to research data using basic statistical programs. Review and verify accuracy of database information and assist in making necessary corrections according to specific guidelines.
  • Type, edit and organize data. Prepare data for input into statistical databases.

  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Process study compensation payments and thank you letters to subjects upon completion of trial activities. Assist with post-study activities, as needed.

Minimum Education and Experience Required
  • Two year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Desired Education: A Four year college degree in Psychology or related field is preferred.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • General understanding of scientific theory and methods.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human study participants.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, and operates foot and/or hand controls.
