Reports to the Director of Upward Bound Programs (UB) at Texas State University- San Marcos.
The Upward Bound Grant Specialist is a member of the UB administrative team and promotes educational achievement and the pursuit of post- secondary education enrollment for program participants.
The Grant Specialist is responsible for developing comprehensive tutoring and academic services for program participants in the 9th to 12th grades at San Marcos, Lehman and Seguin High Schools.
Services include but are not limited to: educational planning, academic enrichment, college readiness, and career, academic and financial aid advising.
The Grant Specialist is also responsible for recruitment and monitoring progress toward the accomplishment of program objectives.
Position located in BOTH San Marcos AND all three target schools. Frequent commutes are required.
Evening and weekend work will be required.
Employment with Texas State University is contingent upon the outcome of a criminal history background check.
Assist with preparing materials and facilitating aggressive participant recruitment campaign in accordance with US Department of Education Guidelines. Job Open Date:
Evaluate participant applications to determine eligibility. Make recommendations and conduct participant intake interviews.
Evaluate and complete academic and needs assessments on each program participant.
Research, develop and implement innovative co-curricular programming for students that fosters personal and academic growth.
Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for each program participant and assist in monitoring IEP progress throughout the calendar year.
Assist in developing academic tutoring schedule for students to adhere to on a weekly basis.
Ensure students effectively utilize tutoring services provided and communicate needs from tutors as appropriate.
Assist with the assessment and reporting of participant progress, personal growth and academic performance.
Oversee maintenance of participant files and program-specific documentation to ensure all appropriate services and contacts are entered into the student database; verify promotion, retention and graduation of all current participants.
Provide college admission and financial aid process information.
Conduct frequent program evaluations with participants and parents.
Propose, plan and review expenses and budget as related to trips, activities and events.
Assist in planning, coordination of and chaperoning participants on cultural/educational trips and college visit tours.
Ensure that senior participants take appropriate steps toward high school graduation and college enrollment.
Follow up on progress year round and communicate progress to director.
Assist in planning the Summer Residential Program, including orientation, scheduling, supervising, and evaluation of summer staff.
Monitor and collect data on graduate participants in accordance grant tracking requirements.
Develop and maintain professional outreach networks within target area communities and schools, serving as a liaison and point of contact as needed.
Assist with the submission of the U.S. Department of Education Annual Performance Report.
Participate in division, department and university wide meetings.
Actively seek out and participate in professional development opportunities to promote personal and professional growth.
