Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in a natural or physical science, environmental health, environmental studies, geography, or related field and at least three (3) years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position.

Comprehensive working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local environmental compliance regulations.

Experience conducting inspections or audits to determine compliance with environmental permits or regulations. Experience using environmental monitoring equipment and collecting environmental samples for analysis, such as water quality and/or waste determination sampling. Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets. Effective oral and written communication skills. Proficient in MS Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat. Ability to interact with people and make public presentations. Ability to work as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree from an accredited university. Professional environmental certification or licensure, such as Environmental Professional (EP), Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CISEC), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM). Experience with stormwater and/or hazardous waste programs to ensure compliance with environmental permits or regulations. Experience making hazardous waste determinations. Ability to review construction plans and specifications for compliance with environmental rules, regulations, and practices. 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and current refresher.

Job Description:

The EHS Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the management of environmental, health and safety programs at Texas State. The primary responsibility will be to provide support for environmental compliance programs, including stormwater, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), and hazardous waste.

Job Duties:

Support environmental programs by conducting inspections, implementing program goals, maintaining documentation, tracking and compiling data, and reviewing construction plans for compliance with environmental regulations.

Participate in collection of environmental samples and use of environmental monitoring equipment for regulatory compliance.

Maintain permit and registration data, inventories, training records, and other required documentation for environmental programs.

Assist in developing and providing training to faculty, staff, and students for environmental programs.

Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating program policies and documents.

Assist in developing interdepartmental and external partnerships to promote environmental programs on campus.

Provide technical assistance and customer service to campus community for environmental programs.

Participate as a member of the spill response team.

Additional Information to Applicants:

Work involves various degrees of hazard and may include prolonged work in outdoor conditions and inclement weather.

Conducts job duties wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).

May respond to emergencies on campus during the day or after-hours. Will carry after hours phone on a rotating basis.

Work may require lifting up to 50 pounds
