Job Summary

The University of West Georgia (UWG) Assistant Volleyball Coach reports to the Head Volleyball Coach. The UWG Assistant Volleyball Coach assists the Head Volleyball Coach in all aspects of the program as directed by the Head Volleyball Coach. UWG is at the Division II level in the Gulf South Conference. The Assistant Volleyball Coach provides support to the student athletes both academically and athletically and is expected to represent UWG in a professional manner that aligns with the University of West Georgia strategy & culture.

This position is designated as a Clery Act Campus Security Authority (CSA). CSAs are obligated to report all Clery Act qualifying crimes which occur on campus, in public areas bordering campus and in certain non-campus buildings owned or controlled (leased) by the University to the proper channels. Complete annual mandatory training. CSAs who deliberately fail to report crimes may be subject to appropriate discipline, including being barred from holding any CSA position in the future.


Coaching - 30
On court coaching with an emphasis on skill development and individual improvement

Recruiting - 25
Recruit student athletes on or off campus which includes coordinate recruiting efforts, professionally communicate with recruits.

Travel & meals - 25
Assist with team meals and travel arrangements, returning emails for administrative purposes and contacting recruits, administrative paperwork to assist the head coach. May be needed to transport student athletes to and from competitions.

Monitor academics - 10
Monitor team academics, study halls and progress reports of student athletes

Camps - 10
Organize and assist with camps, clinics, and fundraising efforts

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelors degree is required

Other Required Qualifications
NCAA Recruitment Certificate, CPR & First AID certification required. Certifications may be obtained upon hire.

Required Experience
Two years of previous Volleyball coaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Masters degree

Preferred Experience
Two years of collegiate volleyball coaching experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Ability to instruct student athletes in skills and safety. Must be energetic, professional and committed to improving the UWG Volleyball program. Ability to recruit talented student athletes. Must be able to promote a positive environment for the student athletes to succeed academically, athletically and in the community.
Candidates must be physically able to teach/instruct student athletes and perform other physical duties in both hot and cold temperatures. The position requires working early mornings, nights and weekends. Must be able to travel for recruitment and off-campus games, including out of state.

Knowledge of rules and skills of women's college volleyball. Knowledge of NCAA rules.

Ability to recruit potential student athletes. Must be able to teach volleyball skills and fundamentals to enhance the players' experience.
