Supervises the delivery of programs and services in the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) Career Center, a satellite location of the University Career Center. Establishes and maintains relationships with employers, college leadership, faculty, staff, and students. The Assistant Director will serve as a member of the Career Center’s leadership team and will assist in providing strategic direction for the Career Center. This position reports to the Career Center’s Senior Associate Director, and is a part of the Department of Student Success within the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support. Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):
SUPERVISION (20%): Supervises College of Engineering & Computing Career Center Satellite Office career development staff (career development coaches, graduate assistants and student workers) in the delivery of student services. Supervises administrative staff (reception coordinator, student workers) who support office operations. Coordinates closely with the Senior Associate Director of of Career Development and Experiential Education for consistency of philosophy, policy and procedures in order to deliver quality service to students.
COLLEGE RELATIONS (20%): Develops and maintains relationships with College of Engineering & Computing faculty, administration and staff to ensure strong academic linkages and support for Career Center programs. Works collaboratively with them to develop and implement methods to enhance the experience of both employers and students who use Career Center services. Provides them with appropriate, timely communications.
EMPLOYER RELATIONS (25%): Develops and maintains relationships with key employers who recruit College of Engineering & Computing students. Collaborates closely with Employer Relations staff for consistency of philosophy, policy and procedures in order to delivery quality services to employers.
PLANNING & OUTREACH (15%): Develops and implements strategic plans and marketing initiatives for Engineering & Computing Career Center satellite office in conjunction with the vision and goals of the senior administration of the College and the Career Center leadership team.
DIRECT SERVICES (15%): Teaches career development and job search skills to students through individual and group sessions to include career coaching appointments, presentations and special programming, and through career classes. Interprets psychometric assessments such as interest and personality inventories. Collaborates closely with experiential education staff to ensure quality internship and co-op experiences for students.
OTHER (5%): Participates in Career Center and Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support events. May serve on one or more office or cross-campus committees.
Masters degree in Student Services or related field and 4 years related experience, or bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience. Position requires some evening and weekend work and travel.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Skills in supervision, career counseling, employer relations, psychometric assessment, program planning, public/constituent relations and group presentations are necessary to perform the required duties. Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Must relate effectively to students, faculty, staff, and employers in a higher education setting.Safety Sensitive or Security Sensitive:
