The Student Financial Management Center sub-division, within the Division of Student Affairs & Campus Diversity, houses three separate student service offices- the Student Financial Management Center (SFMC), the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS), and Student Account Services (SAS). This subdivision focuses on delivering student-centered engagement in an environment that is transparent, highly regulated, and compliance-driven under the leadership of an Assistant Vice President.
The SFMC’s focus is to provide centralized, individual financial case management and counseling to students, parents, and families. The SFMC maximizes the efficiency and effectiveness of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) and Student Account Services (SAS) by providing a scalable, “one stop” shop approach to providing assistance with issues related to financial aid, scholarships, and student billing regardless of where the students and staff are physically located.

The Director of the Student Financial Management Center (SFMC) in collaboration with and under the direction of the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, will provide strategic leadership and administrative guidance, coordination, and implementation for the SFMC. The Director will work together with the Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs to provide leadership to ensure university compliance with all applicable laws and rules related to federal, state, private, and institutional aid.
The Director of SFMC will provide leadership and supervision to the staff comprised of Student Services Professionals and Administrative Analyst/Specialist. The Director of SFMC will establish best practices and training programs for staff and JR counselors to deliver exceptional student service through the SFMC. The Director has overall responsibility for planning, preparing, and coordinating offerings to support students and parents in understanding costs and available resources to pay for college.

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, at-will limited term position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2022. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.
Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.Two years of experience in financial aid or in personal finance. Two years of progressively responsible experience related to event planning and program coordination within a large university setting.
Preferred Qualifications & Specialized Skills Master’s degree or equivalent experience.Experience administering financial aid and scholarships and/or student billing in a CSU setting.Experience resolving complex student and parent issues correlated to financial aid that are escalated to the management level. Experience administering a fast-paced virtual help desk via zoom.Ability to lead weekly committee meetings and weekly staff meetings.Ability to create a term staffing schedule and to update weekly as needed.
