Position Summary:

This IT Specialist position manages office, classroom, and conference room technology for the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and provides frontline support for students, faculty, classroom, and technicians in the field. The individual in this position will diagnose and resolve issues pertaining to podium computer hardware, software, peripherals, and network devices and provide quick and efficient on-site and remote support to ensure minimal downtime and disruptions. This position is the principal contact for classroom AV support, so applicants with some familiarity with AV switches (e.g., AMX, Extron GVE) and room management hardware will be given preference. Experience with videoconferencing and webinars (e.g., Zoom, GoTo Meeting) is desired. Both technical and interpersonal skills are required. This position will report directly to the Director of Technology.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:

Excellent interpersonal skills: This position works with instructors, often in time-sensitive situations such as during a class in progress.
Proficient IT problem-solving skills
Intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of PC and Apple hardware and software support.
Some knowledge of or experience with AV presentation and control systems
A valid Georgia driver’s license.

Physical Demands:

Long periods of time working at a computer.

Transport training materials and portable presentation equipment to various sites on campus.

• Hardware and Software Support
Consult in the purchase of, configure, maintain, and support Warnell computers, monitors, printers, and associated software. Support includes troubleshooting, light hardware repair, and interfacing with manufacturers to initiate warranty requests.

Percentage of time:



• Classroom and Lab Support
Monitor classrooms and computer labs, maintain classroom technology, including computers and AV systems, and provide prompt support for instructors and students. Conduct periodic training sessions for faculty and staff on the use of classroom and lab technology.

• Creation and maintenance of documentation and instructional materials
Document current IT procedures and produce and maintain up-to-date instructional materials for classroom equipment, checkout technology, and department hardware and software.

• Checkout equipment stewardship
Consult in the purchase of, maintain, provide documentation for, and keep close watch on Warnell checkout equipment. Keep checkout procedures up-to-date and facilitate the smooth lending and return of checkout items.

• Digital signage maintenance
Maintain a digital signage server (currently using Carousel software) and provide technical support for graphic designers and marketing staff.

• Facilitate innovation and development
Stay current on developments in instructional technology, UGA procedures, and modern methods of instruction. Advise and collaborate on equipping Warnell classrooms with the latest technology. Any other related duties as assigned.
