Job Description Summary

The Research Investigator Sr (SRI) will act in a leadership role, overseeing and designing advanced experiments. He/She will assist the Principal Investigator and play a leading role in developing a research program in the advancement of specific area of study and will play a crucial role both in all aspects of research products including development, implementation, and data analysis. In the development stage, the SRI will assess proposed projects by conducting feasibility studies to provide valuable input regarding viability, efficiency, timeline, and study design. In the implementation stage, he/she will supervise and perform the project. This includes overseeing workflow and productivity of lab personnel and providing training to them on specific techniques as necessary. Finally, the SRI will be responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presenting research findings through various forums. Senior Research Investigator must demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in professional "publication ready" format and to be able to independently prepare manuscripts and grant writings for submission.

Job Description

We are looking for a motivated individual that is excited about doing a bench work focused on the biochemistry of DNA modifying enzyme and pathways. The Senior Research Investigator will be an important member of a team of graduate and postdoctoral researchers, with the primary responsibility of conducting and interpreting experiments in support of the laboratory’s larger aims. The researcher will need experience in molecular biology, protein engineering, protein purification, enzyme kinetics, biophysical approaches to protein characterization and chemical biology of DNA. For many of the experiments, the expectation is that the research specialist will receive training from other lab members and subsequently be able to independently conduct the experiments, analyze data and present results in an efficient manner. In other cases, the researcher may be responsible for developing new methods. The research specialist will work in an environment that is team-oriented, where creativity, enthusiasm and dedicated effort are highly rewarded. This position also may involve work on weekends and University holidays. Good verbal and written communication skills and understanding of scientific literature are required, and interest in securing funding for ongoing research through participating in grant writing is desirable. Excellent organizational and record keeping skills are necessary.

Duties:

1) Conduct biochemical experiments - 50% (essential)

2) Analysis of data - 10% (essential)

3) Maintain complete and complete files, organization of laboratory records, data entry of samples - 10% (essential)

4) Attend lab meetings and prepare presentations - 10% (essential)

5) Supervise students, technicians - 10% (essential)

6) Assistance with lab administrative management - 5% (nonessential)

7) Perform additional duties as assigned - 5% (nonessential)


Qualifications
Highly advanced professional discipline. M.D., Ph. D., or equivalent doctoral degree and 5-7 years of experience is required (PhD in Biochemistry and 7-10 years preferred)

Educational or research experience with biochemistry is preferred, including experience with industry. Experience with biochemical, chemical biology and molecular biology techniques is preferred. Experience with general laboratory techniques is required.
