The Toll Public Interest Center (TPIC) sits at the core of these efforts. TPIC is home to the Law School’s distinctive Pro Bono Program and oversees a wide array of public interest programming, including scholarship and fellow programs, advocacy skill development trainings, and educational and community-building efforts.

The Associate Director for Communitywide Public Interest Programs reports to the Director of the Toll Public Interest Center and collaborates with other TPIC staff members and other Penn Law departments, faculty, students, University and community partners, to design, build, and implement programs for students, which currently includes the Public Interest Experience for JD and LLM students. The Associate Director oversees a comprehensive roster of public interest programs for the entire Penn Carey Law community.Job Description
The overarching responsibilities of the position include:
- Develop, implement, and oversee an immersive program for students, currently defined in the Public Interest Experience (PIE), TPIC’s flagship program, intended to DO WHAT rather than FOR WHOM
- Develop, implement, and oversee all of TPIC’s communitywide programs.
- Develop and manage a robust network of strategic partners to enhance our programs and student opportunities.
- Manage budgets for all communitywide public interest programs.
- Collaborate with the Office of Communications to market all programming, news, and accomplishments.
- Supervise TPIC’s graduate assistant.
- Supervise TPIC’s Program Assistant in their specific support of TPIC communitywide programs.
JD or master’s preferred, with 3-5 years of experience working in service-oriented program management; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience within a higher education environment is essential. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to and understanding of social justice. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to design, plan, and implement educational programs and events. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in working with large groups of mission-driven individuals to plan and execute goals. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work diplomatically with multiple constituencies including faculty, alumni, current students, prospective students, and colleagues. Candidates should be highly motivated and possess strong personal initiative and drive. The ideal candidate will be a team player who has an established track record of collaboration in the workplace.
