Job Description Summary

The Senior Director, Women’s Health Initiatives at Penn Nursing is a newly created position established to strengthen the School’s footprint in the women’s health arena by expanding its impact and reach via support of programming, research, and fundraising. The SD will report to the Afaf I. Meleis Director for the Center for Global Women’s Health (CGWH) with a dotted line report (for alumni and fundraising activities) to the Vice Dean of Institutional Advancement. Partnering with the CGWH Director, they will work to enhance existing and new research, practice, and teaching initiatives to further the mission, goals and strategic plan of the Center. These include, but are not limited to, an emerging collaboration with external entities. They will spearhead planning for other internal and external CGWH events. They will work within the School, across the University, in the community, and beyond to identify and create viable partnerships that will further the work of the Center and support students and faculty. They will also support CGWH by serving as a liaison with the School’s department of Marketing and Communications to heighten CGWH’s visibility. Working with the Vice Dean of Institutional Advancement, the Senior Director will recruit members to the CGWH Advisory Board, identify new and steward existing donors, and create opportunities for alumni engagement that will enrich alumni and the Center. Adopting a broad view of advancing and promoting Nursing expertise in women’s health issues, the Senior Director will also engage faculty and students, and/or other senior leadership, to meet the School’s and CGWH’s research, practice, and education objectives in women’s and/or maternal health.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with CGWH Director to enhance existing and develop new initiatives to further the mission, goals and strategic plan of the CGWH. This includes fund-raising, grant development and management. Will track CGWH finances and provide strategic input in utilization of resources. Adopt a broad view of advancing and promoting Nursing expertise in women’s health issues, the Senior Director will also engage faculty, and/or other senior leadership as appropriate to meet the School’s and CGWH objectives in women’s and/or maternal health.

  • Work within the School, across the University, in the community and beyond to identify and create viable research, education, and practice partnerships and programs that will further the work of the CGWH and the strategic plan of the School of Nursing.

  • Work with the Vice Dean of Institutional Advancement, the Senior Director will recruit members to the CGWH Advisory Board, identify new and steward existing donors, and create opportunities for alumni engagement that will enrich alumni and the CGWH.

  • Serve as a liaison with the School’s department of Marketing and Communications to heighten the CGWH’s visibility.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate holds an earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D, or equivalent) and has at least 7-10 years of practice, service, and/or research on women’s health issues or an equivalent combination of education and experience. They will have expertise in women’s health, global health, and public health research, education, and practice. They will have a proven record of analyzing evidence and using evidence to inform programming and policies. They will have a history of creating and sustaining strong partnerships and multitasking to manage multiple priorities. The candidate will have expertise in program development and evaluation and grant writing/proposal development. Board development, fundraising, and events planning are preferred, as well a commitment to working to enforce the School’s mission in social justice. They will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders from community members, leaders, to university community members, students, and government officials. The candidate will be self-motivated and able to both function and lead as a team member.
