The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking dynamic professionals to join a partnership between public university social work programs and the Office of Workforce Research and Development (WRD). Under contract with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, the School of Social Work, through the Learning and Development Program, provides professional learning and development solutions to suit the specific needs of external and internal child welfare staff, caregivers, and service providers serving youth in care.

The Instructional Designer collaborates with team members, subject matter experts, and facilitators to develop and implement creative, engaging, and high-quality learning and development solutions for the workforce, across all levels and job classifications.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Curriculum and content development

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and facilitators to determine learning needs and analyze learning gaps, and to assist in the development of learning paths
  • Design, develop and implement innovative and impactful curricula using advanced learning theory and technologies
  • Design core professional skills solutions based on learning paths and level-specific competencies, across service lines
  • Review and enhance existing content to ensure level appropriateness and consistency with learning objectives
  • Advise on best practices for content creation and execution using innovative organizational development and/or adult learning techniques, principles, theory, and online learning technologies

Transfer of Training

  • Assist with facilitator preparedness and effectiveness, and onsite learning facilitation, as needed

Technology Management

  • Drive the strategy around the design of learning content and experiences that leverages technology to meet the needs of a diverse set of learning styles
  • Assist in the administration of the Learning Management System (LMS) with respect to directing learning and tracking competencies at various levels
  • Assist with implementing instructional technology for effective and efficient training delivery

Other duties as assigned

  • Statewide travel required

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in instructional design or technology, organizational development, behavioral psychology, education or related field. Two (2) years of demonstrated experience assessing training needs and developing related content. Experience with eLearning resources and authoring tools and implementation thereof, including SCORM and AICC. Proficiency in Articulate Storyline authoring software preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to learn basic social work terminology and to garner industry knowledge. Excellent attention to detail, organizational, interpersonal, teaming, and communication skills. Ability to take initiative and act in a self-directed manner, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Innovative and solutions-oriented thinker with excellent judgment and professionalism. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word). Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking and writing ability preferred.

This is a full-time (100%), twelve month non-tenure track academic professional position. This position is located statewide. The position is grant-funded and renewal is contingent upon availability of funds. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. The proposed start date is as soon as possible after the closing date.

Research

Students and scholars find the University an ideal place to conduct research. The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology is a model for interdisciplinary research, where eighteen research groups from sixteen University departments work within and across three broadly defined themes: biological intelligence, human-computer intelligent interaction, and molecular and electronic nanostructures. The University is also home to the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

Undergraduate Education

The University has a fundamental commitment to undergraduate education. Nearly 28,000 undergraduate students are enrolled in nine undergraduate divisions, which together offer some 4,000 courses in more than 150 fields of study.

Undergraduate admission is highly selective. In the 2001 freshman class, students in the middle 50% had ACT scores between 25 and 30 and ranked between the 83rd and 96th percentiles of their high school graduating classes.

The Arts

A major center for the arts, the campus attracts dozens of nationally and internationally renowned artists each year to its widely acclaimed Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The University also supports two major museums: the Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion; and the Spurlock Museum, a museum of world history and culture. 

Other major facilities include the multipurpose Assembly Hall (16,500 seats); Memorial Stadium (70,000 seats), site of Big Ten Conference football games; and the Intramural-Physical Education Building, one of the largest recreational facilities of its kind on a university campus.
