The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine invites applications for full-time, 12-month appointment in the Integrated Food Animal Management Systems section. We deliver core and elective courses across all four years of the professional curriculum, graduate instruction, and deliver educational programs for clients and veterinarians locally, nationally and internationally.

Requirements: Candidates must have a DVM degree or equivalent, licensure, or legibility for licensure, to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Illinois, clinical veterinary experience with livestock and the credentials to be accepted as PhD candidate in the Department of Pathobiology. Preference will be given to candidates who have a demonstrated ability to teach and develop online courses that are part of a graduate program for veterinarians and the livestock industry. It is imperative that the successful candidate have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people in a team atmosphere.

Duties: This position is a 100% teaching appointment in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine. The appointment will be full time and will be a non-tenured, academic position with a starting date on or about August 16, 2021. The primary responsibilities associated with this position will be to provide instruction for both graduate level courses as part of the Master of Veterinary Science program and the professional curriculum for DVM candidates. Senior faculty support will be available when necessary for both the delivery and development of course material. The successful candidate will be expected to provide 65-75% of their effort to didactic teaching with remaining time allocated to pursuing a PhD degree as part of the Applied Livestock Epidemiology Laboratory in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory and providing diagnostic services to producers as part of the laboratory.

Research

Students and scholars find the University an ideal place to conduct research. The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology is a model for interdisciplinary research, where eighteen research groups from sixteen University departments work within and across three broadly defined themes: biological intelligence, human-computer intelligent interaction, and molecular and electronic nanostructures. The University is also home to the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

Undergraduate Education

The University has a fundamental commitment to undergraduate education. Nearly 28,000 undergraduate students are enrolled in nine undergraduate divisions, which together offer some 4,000 courses in more than 150 fields of study.

Undergraduate admission is highly selective. In the 2001 freshman class, students in the middle 50% had ACT scores between 25 and 30 and ranked between the 83rd and 96th percentiles of their high school graduating classes.

The Arts

A major center for the arts, the campus attracts dozens of nationally and internationally renowned artists each year to its widely acclaimed Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The University also supports two major museums: the Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion; and the Spurlock Museum, a museum of world history and culture. 

Other major facilities include the multipurpose Assembly Hall (16,500 seats); Memorial Stadium (70,000 seats), site of Big Ten Conference football games; and the Intramural-Physical Education Building, one of the largest recreational facilities of its kind on a university campus.
