Position Summary:The COVID-19 virus (SARS-CoV-2) is especially devastating for those who are housed or work in criminal justice settings due to restricted access to sanitizing supplies and personal protective equipment, close congregant living conditions, and exposure to correctional staff who unknowingly transmit the infection from the community. These populations are also more likely to experience severe and life-threatening symptoms of COVID-19, due to higher rates of underlying medical conditions. This position is funded by an NIH funded RADx-UP grant, which aims to increased access to COVID-19 testing among historically marginalized and underserved populations.
The hired candidate will join an interdisciplinary research team, led by Dr. Lauren Brinkley-Rubinstein, that will characterize the incidence of COVID-19 and collect de-identified medical records, administrative data and policy data from several key correctional facilities in the United States.
The hired candidate will import incoming datasets from multiple formats (PDF’s, CSV files, etc.), manage large datasets in REDCap, and perform quantitative analyses. They will also assist with data visualizations for external partners to digest the data more easily.
This position will interface with workgroup teams, project management staff, governance committees, and others on a regular basis. This position will also be responsible for attending webinars and conference calls, as well as offering consultations, recommendations, and basic training to internal and external faculty and other stakeholders.
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years’ experience or will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
Degree or coursework in Clinical or Biomedical Informatics strongly preferred.
-Preference for the selected candidate to have a master’s degree in computer, business, math/science related curriculum. A certificate and/or degree in clinical informatics is highly preferred. Minimum of 1 year of experience working with research and database systems.
-Proven understanding of security and regulatory requirements surrounding protected health information (PHI).
-Understanding of clinical research study design and methodologies.
-Intermediate knowledge of REDCap, as well as experience with managing large datasets.
-Experience with data query using GUI tools (i2b2/SHRINE, PopMedNet, CLARK, SAS, SAP Business Objects)
-Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and professionalism with strong attention to detail.
-Excellent written and oral interpersonal communication skills.
-Proven ability to work in a team environment.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina.
