Your mission: You’ll serve as the first-line expert to faculty for the technical application of high- and medium-fidelity human simulators in the SimLab at the Health Sciences Center of Excellence / Coleman College, and for the Mobile SimUnit.
Your work: In this role, you’ll manage the day-to-day operations and scheduling of the SimLab and Mobile SimUnit, ensuring that it meets the education needs of faculty and students at Coleman College and other HCC campus locations using the Mobile SimUnit. You’ll integrate, maintain and operate the computer, audio/video technology, pneumatics and hydraulics related to human manikins and ancillary equipment. You’ll prepare, maintain and repair computerized manikins. You’ll set up and conduct human simulation demonstrations for Health Science faculty, students and visitors, during which you’ll operate recording software, adjust cameras and maintain simulation session videos. Pre-session orientations, post-session debriefings and assistance with uploading simulation-related instructional documents into Eagle Online, are some of the ways you’ll support faculty members.

The position is a fusion between health care practitioner and the use of simulation training techniques. It requires strong patient care skills and human simulation skills. The Simulation Center Technician will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations and scheduling of SimLab. S/he must ensure a smooth workflow of activities to meet the education needs of faculty and students at Coleman College. The activities in the Simulation Center (SimLab & SimUnit) vary daily as there are multiple users, departments and needs in Coleman College and visitors. The Simulation Center Technician is responsible for developing, preparing, and running simulation equipment in the presence of Health Science faculty. The Simulation Lab Technician will assist in the interdisciplinary operation of Simulation Center under the direction of the center’s manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Set-ups and assists in conducting human simulation demonstrations for faculty, students and visitors. Restores laboratory to pre-scenario conditions;
- Properly and accurately collects lab utilization data for monthly reports;
- Maintain accurate inventory records and conducts annual physical inventory inspection of HCC assets;
- Provide technical support for all simulation operations, including preparation, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins;
- Accept lab requests from faculty or Administration and maintains the lab schedule;
- Manage scenario software and devise pre-simulation guides and checklist with input from faculty;
- Perform periodic and scheduled maintenance of human simulation manikins and other medical equipment;
- Perform assembly, modification and installation of human simulation manikins and task trainers;
- Maintain archived simulation training and testing materials;
- Assist faculty with pre-session orientation and post session debriefing;
- Operate recording software, adjust cameras and maintain simulation session videos; and
- Learn the characteristics of new equipment and update skills to adapt to changing technology.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Associate degree in an Allied Health Care field or Simulation required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Current and valid CPR/BLS card (Basic Life Support) is required,
- Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) are desirable.
Eighteen (18) months full-time experience with adult and pediatric human patient care in a clinical or simulation setting preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Familiar with Leardal, Gaumard and Meti human simulators, or the willingness to attend traning;
- Work effectively and collaboratively with Health Science faculty, students and visitors;
- Medical Terminology, abbreviation and scientific symbols;
- The Simulation Center Technician will serve as the first line expert to faculty for the technical application high & medium fidelity human simulators;
- The Simulation Technician will work with faculty to review and install scenarios that are medically sound and engaging;
- Ability to function in, and knowledge of educational pedagogy in an urban Nursing and Allied Health community college environment;
- Ability to translate medical knowledge into a training and simulation environment;
- Strong verbal and engaging communication skills with the demonstrated ability to offer ideas and alternatives to faculty as needed to ensure the Simulation Center runs smoothly and meets learning objectives of all users;
- Reinforce the purpose and practice of universal precautions and infection control.
- Orders, maintains and provides security for supplies, materials, and equipment in the laboratory; stores, discards, and rotates supplies and materials according to procedures;
- Ability to apply medical knowledge and physiologic features of the medium and high fidelity manikins to clinically based scenarios;
- Knowledge of anatomic, physiologic and pathologic props, including moulage (body fluids, excretions, wounds, surgical procedures, medical procedures etc.);
- Technical responsibilities include: installing software and hardware upgrades;
- Troubleshooting equipment and system problems with manufacturers;
- Tracking utilization and maintaining database for statistics and monthly reports;
- May require occasional heavy physical lifting (up to 50 lbs.) of equipment and management and utilization of advanced medical devices;
- Maintain appropriate documentation for the simulation lab, usage statistics, lab web page;
- Good organizational skills;
- Assist with practice and testing by operating simulation and AV equipment for simulations;
- Ability to take initiative and work independently; and
- Clinical knowledge of medical physiologic monitoring equipment.
