Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites internal applications for a full-time Executive Assistant for The Office of the President. The ideal candidate ensures smooth production and operation of the President’s short- and long- range schedule, functioning of the President’s Office, and representing the President’s Office in internal meetings. The role of the Executive Assistant requires a professional demeanor, experience, communication skills, and discretion, as the Executive Assistant also works with the President’s Spouse, College Vice Presidents and their administrative staffs, the President’s Administrative Assistant, Executive Events (protocol) and The Citadel Foundation, the school’s endowment arm.

The Executive Assistant serves as the public face for The Office of the President. This entails greeting and interacting in an effective manner with visitors, alumni, elected officials, senior military officers, community leaders, school benefactors, parents, and cadets on a daily basis. This communication occurs in person and electronically.

Essential tasks include managing the President's schedule and providing administrative and logistic support, allowing the President to effectively discharge his duties. Additionally, the Executive Assistant assists the Director/Chief of Staff in coordinating activities and support to the President from The Citadel Foundation, the Office of Executive Events, the President's Quarters Staff, and other functional arms of the college

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Building and maintaining the President’s Calendar, coordinating travel, common executive-level administrative tasks, maintaining records, arranging local transportation, assisting with on-campus social events as required, and understanding unique logistical requirements of the President.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a high school diploma AND three years’ experience working directly for a CEO-level position. Consideration given to candidates with seven years’ experience working with mid-level management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior work in higher education or with senior-level military leaders is desired. While not required, experience as a senior enlisted military non commissioned officer with staff experience, military aide, or Flag Writer are a plus. A Bachelor’s degree is desired.

Additional Requirements:

While the position usually entails a normal working day, requirements for after-hours and weekend work will occur. Applicants should be prepared to work outside normal business hours as task completion requires.

The Executive Assistant works in an office environment. Dress and appearance should be businesslike and appropriate to represent the President of the college. Former or current military personnel may work in the appropriate uniform. Light physical labor normal to office functions may be required at times.
