Governors State University is seeking to hire an Online Instruction Specialist to serve as a faculty tutor, instructor and developer in on line instructional techniques and design supporting programs and operations in the Center for Active Engagement and Scholarship (CAES). The incumbent is responsible for working with faculty who design and teach online courses, training faculty and staff in online teaching through workshop development and one-on-one instruction. Minimum Qualifications:
The position requires a highly motivated, dedicated, and enthusiastic individual who will assist instructors in the development and delivery of on line and web-enhanced courses; provide expertise and guidance in a wide variety of instructional technology applications; teach courses in on line course development, and assist in the support of an online learning management system (currently BlackBoard).
Duties Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Faculty Development and Instructional Support (50%)
•Advise and assist faculty in the use of learning technologies to enhance instruction and support new learning environments.
•Provide consultation to faculty in the application of instructional design and the use of instructional technology tools in the delivery of instruction.
•Design and deliver workshops for faculty development on Learning Management System(Blackboard Learn) and teaching and learning technologies.
•Design, develop and/or coordinate the development of workshops (online and face-to-face) and supportive resources to promote sound pedagogical use of learning technologies.
•Participate in and manage projects relating to the design and development of multimedia, distributed learning and distance education applications.
•Distribute electronic communication to faculty, staff and students regarding important updates or events from the CAES.
•Work as a liaison between the CAES and academic units.
Technology and Learning Management System Support (40%)
•Research emerging technologies and make recommendations regarding their incorporation into online instruction.
•Investigation of classroom-based technologies and make recommendations regarding their adoption at GSU.
•Apply instructional design principles and learning theories to advise/consult on best practices for hybrid and online course development.
•Coordinate the acquisition of elements to be utilized in online courses including: graphics, photographs, audio, video, and web resources.
•Initiate action to resolve any reported issues with the university’s Learning Management System (LMS).
•Collaborate with ITS and CAES team to plan, organize, and test system maintenance or updates for LMS.
•Assist in the management of the university’s Learning Management System and associated technologies.
•Advise and assist students in use of learning technologies required for online learning.
•Troubleshoot problems for students as they engage in online learning.
•Assist student workers within the CAES.
•Attend all CAES team meetings as scheduled.
Other Duties As Assigned (10%)
Starting Salary: $71,268.94.
(This is a non-unionized position. Salary starts at the base and is determined based on Education and Experience exceeding the minimum qualifications).

A. Master’s degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy
Six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching.
B. Baccalaureate degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities
Eighteen (18) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching.

• Minimum of M.S. or M.A. in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology or related field. Posting Date:
• Demonstrable experience in course design and development.
• Significant experience in online learning in faculty and/or student roles.
• Knowledge of and experience in curriculum development and instructional design.
• Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively on complex projects.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects in a collaborative environment.
• Experience in conducting faculty workshops.
• Professional preparation in utilizing an array of instructional technologies including hardware and software, Internet-based communication technologies, learning management systems and distance learning techniques.
• Demonstrated expertise in the use of emerging technologies in instruction.
• Experience with web technologies, multimedia applications, and distributed and/or distance technologies.
• Experience with quality assurance protocols or rubrics for online courses (i.e. Quality Matters, Blackboard Exemplary Course Rubric).
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and adapt to varying styles, skills, and expertise in a diverse workplace.
• Previous online teaching experience at university level.
