Responsibilities

Point of Contact Security Guards play an important role at The Ringling providing quality customer service and ensuring the safety and security of all employees, volunteers, and visitors.

Responsibilities include:

  • Follows the Ringling Security Operating Guidelines. Patrols the campus and guards against theft, vandalism and other occurrences, potential or actual, which could result in loss or damage to the collection. Performs routine inspections of assigned posts/venues. Utilizes a golf cart, multiline telephone and two-way radio. Monitors parking areas and surrounding exterior areas of venues.

  • Serves as a Point of contact for all venues within the Ringling campus to include the Center For Performing Arts (CFPA). Primary post will be Ringling Gate House. Works all other posts including: the Johnson-Blalock Education Center & Library (EL), Museum Basement (MB), Museum Patrol (MP).

  • Performs as public safety officer in the absence of the Safety & Security Coordinator and Security Supervisors. Responds to incidents and emergencies, which may require the ability to walk significant distances and or climb/descend stairs quickly. Assists individuals involved in accidents or when injured on campus. Assists in execution of emergency plans concerning evacuation of venues in the event of fire, disasters, or other emergency situations. Prepares written reports as necessary.

  • Provides oversight and operation of the Ringling Museum Security Operations Center (SOC) on the security day shift. The SOC is the electronic nerve center for all Ringling campus security operations. It is a combined dispatch, surveillance, access control center staffed 24/7, 365 days a year by one to two SOC console operators. SOC operators are responsible for multiple protocols. Utilizing electronic security systems, access control points, closed circuit video systems, fire and weather monitoring systems, and computers, the SOC operators monitor conditions on campus and communicate important information with the appropriate personnel.

  • The incumbent may be assigned to venues/posts as Security Guard at the Center for the Performing Arts (CFPA). The CFPA houses the FSU/Asolo Conservatory and the Sarasota Ballet. The facility comprises two theaters and up to five rehearsal studios. Both entities train student actors/dancers and put on theatrical stage productions.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Valid Florida Driver's License or ability to obtain prior to hire.

    • Note: Learner's Permits are not acceptable

  • Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position including but not limited to the ability to walk significant distances and extended period of time, climb/descend stairs quickly in order to respond to emergencies, and the ability to safely lift and operate a 50 pound fire extinguisher.

  • Within the first twelve months in the position, the incumbent must have completed all required training including but not limited to: First Aid Certification, Blood-borne Pathogens Training, Weather Spotter Certification, FEMA Online Incident Command System courses IS 235 and 240, Basic Campus Fire Suppression System Training, Cross Match Fingerprint Scanning Software Application Training.

    • Please note all training will be provided by The Ringling.

  • Previous experience or skills in related roles such as Security, Police, or Military.
  • Experience in a museum, cultural institution, or non-profit organization.
  • Prior experience in approaching work and interaction with colleagues and/or students in an equity-minded manner.

Soft Money Funded Position

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.

Schedule

Sunday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a half hour lunch period.

The incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, special events, holidays, and overtime. Shift may rotate according to department needs.

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
