Job DescriptionPosition Summary
Participates in the development, implementation and coordination of the Academic Success Programs which contribute to student success and prepare students for the rigors of college coursework. Contributes to the quality of the learning environment by contributing to the educational experience that fosters student success and retention.Essential Responsibilities
Manages daily operations of tutoring at the North and South Academic Success Center, including but not limited to, supervising, training, and scheduling student staff, maintaining tracking database and providing assistance to students in need.Recruits, selects, hires, and trains over 50 student tutors.Acts as a resource for tutors regarding tutoring strategies; meets with tutors as needed.Works in collaboration with other ASC staff to ensure training, processes, and standards are consistent between programs.Supervises the Tutoring Graduate Assistant.Coordinates and facilitates new tutor orientations, tutor trainings, and certification programs throughout the semester.Organizes and oversees the tutor observation and evaluation process.Acts as a resource for tutors and stays up to date on current, theory driven tutoring strategies and best practices for learning center management.Coordinates staffing and supervision at the ASC satellite locations, specifically tutoring at the Native American Cultural Center, the Honors College, and Athletics Study Hall.Sets goals, implements initiatives, and evaluates ASC tutoring services.Develops a positive image of the ASCs through contacts with students, parents, staff and faculty; works with a diverse student and employee population using awareness of multicultural issues to support an effective work and service-oriented environment.Assembles and analyzes a variety of data to ensure effective utilization of resources.Manages tutoring program web presence using content management system, update website as needed and ensure accuracy.Adheres to ASC policies and ensure they are being met and that procedures are followed, both by student staff and students using ASC services.Provides and sets standards for excellent customer service, gives information in response to inquiries in person or by telephone.Responsible for administrative duties such as payroll approval and creating and maintaining student files.Assists with ASC department-wide initiatives such as marketing, representation at events, and cross-departmental trainings.Supports and engages Diversity, Equity and Inclusion practices to make the NASC and SASC welcoming to all students.Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree AND 3-5 years of relevant experience, ORA combination of related education, experience, and training.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Advanced knowledge and understanding of student persistence, learning capacities, and skill in designing and implementing valid tools to assess those outcomes.Advanced knowledge of higher education in the areas of academic success initiatives or similar administrative or teaching experience.Program planning, development, and implementation.Skill in prioritizing and completing multiple tasks of varying complexity and urgency in a timely and efficient manner.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Establishes and maintains effective working relationships.Communicates effectively.Possesses strong problem solving, organizational, and analytical capabilities.Promotes a diverse, inclusive environment.
This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting.

Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus and NAU-Fort Defiance as these campuses have on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.

The budgeted salary amount is $47,634.
**The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
