Educational and Experience Requirement:

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Two years relevant specialist experience or experience in a related field. Certifications may be required. Experience in Higher Education and specialized work is desirable. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered. Must be a current Sam Houston State University employee in order to be considered for this position.

Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs highly advanced specialist duties for the Registrar’s Office.

Primary Responsibilities:

Works with the Assistant Registrar on Class Scheduling/NCAA Eligibility/TSI Compliance and assists in specific duties related to class scheduling. Requires full knowledge and understanding of the class schedule build process and the manner in which the student information system holds data. Works in close collaboration with campus academic staff. Utilizes established reports to ensure consistency and accuracy of data related to the class schedule process. Duties require phone coverage as well as responding to emails submitted through the Scheduling and TSI email inboxes.
Responsible for system upgrade testing, resolution process testing, and initiating changes as needed and guided by leadership. Requires communicating verbally and in writing a full understanding of university policies. Additional duties include: individual student grade changes, Texas Success Initiative (TSI) processes to include assisting students and parents with understanding the state requirement of TSI and the relation to college course registration. Dependability at end of term periods will be critical due to the grade change process and NCAA eligibility process. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications:

Strong team collaboration skills are required. Must be able to read and understand technical manuals, summarizing information gathered in an effort to enhance processes with collaborative team efforts. Requires knowledge of standard office functions, strong interpersonal skills, effective written and verbal communication, and good organizational skills. Must be able to apply policies and procedures to solve routine problems of a repetitive nature. Must be willing to learn in a fast-paced office environment and have the ability to exercise independent judgment and make well-informed decisions. Attendance, involvement, and possible workload at other university events outside of the normal workweek is occasionally required. Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and the ability to learn and use institutional software systems.

Occasionally, may be required to work beyond the 40-hour week during peak term periods.
