Job Summary:

The Accountant I reports to the Payroll Director. Must be able to work under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and professional judgment. The Accountant handles a variety of accounting responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college with a major course work in accounting, finance or other business-related area is required.

Ability to demonstrate initiative, willingness to learn and actively participate in a teamwork atmosphere. Knowledge of generally accepting accounting principles and governmental accounting principles. Skilled in the use of computers and specialized software. Ability to solve problems and multi-task. Strong attention to detail and organization skills. Ability to plan, schedule and manage projects and assignments. Occasional overtime maybe required.

Travel – some travel could be required but minimal if at all.

Working conditions – While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, see and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, kneel, bend, and twist upper body. The employee must regularly carry and lift up to 10 pounds, and move up to 15 pounds. Must be able to operate a personal computer and other office equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two to four years experience in accounting is preferred.

SALARY :

$48,000-$50,000

Work Hours:

40 hrs a week; Monday through Friday 8 to 5

Essential Job Functions:

Generate and collect time sheets for Student and Hourly employees.

Essential Job Functions:

Prepare and initiate the payroll process for two monthly payrolls.

Audit payroll records and prepare reports/documents/files as needed.

Audit Travel Reimbursement Vouchers to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Respond to inquiries from employees and management regarding payroll and travel.

Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.

Collect, open, and distribute departmental mail.
