Organizational Unit Overview:

Campus Operations is a broad diverse division of Administration and Finance that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the North Carolina system. Campus Operations is a major division of Administration and Finance with approximately 500 employees and a budget in excess of $30 million. The university is comprised of approximately 6.0 million square feet of facilities located on 960 acres with $700 million in physical assets. Facilities Services is a part of the broad, diverse division of Administration and Finance / Campus Operations that includes all aspects of facilities management at East Carolina University

Job Duties :

Inspect, test, maintain, and repair all electrical generation, distribution and utilization equipment on the Health Sciences and West Research Campuses, to include but not limited to: electrical transmission and distribution conductors, raceways, switches, transformers, sectionalizing switches, switch gear, switch boards, panel boards, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, generators, automatic transfer switches, generators, uninterruptable power supplies, lighting control systems, lighting contactors, lighting fixtures, egress lighting/signage, fire detection & notification systems, power monitoring/metering systems, security access systems, and public address systems; Establish, implement, and conduct preventative maintenance programs that meet or exceed all OEM recommendations and the recommendations of NFPA 70B; Continually review issues pertaining to the electrical distribution system and utilization equipment to maximize reliability and minimize impact to building occupants. Insure that a safe work environment is maintained for all faculty, staff, students and coworkers; or any other duties assigned by Supervisor.

Minimum Education/Experience:

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification.

License or Certification required by statute or regulation:


Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Considerable knowledge in the construction, installation and maintenance of applicable systems, standard practices, materials, and techniques involved in the construction and maintenance of commercial/industrial electrical systems, to include electrical distribution, emergency power generation and transmission, fire detection and notification, special equipment, and communications systems. Knowledge of all applicable codes and methods of installation and repair of commercial/industrial electrical systems. Ability to read blueprints, schematics and drawings and to interpret those layouts. Considerable knowledge in the construction, installation, and maintenance of fully addressable fire detection and alarm systems is a plus. Familiarity with special hazard systems like Halon and FM200. A strong working knowledge of the NEC, NFPA: 70B, 70E, and 72 is helpful.

License or Certification required by the Department:

All Employees must have and maintain a valid NC driver’s license at all times.
