SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Athletic Public Relations coordinates all media relations activities relevant to his/her assigned sports, including publications, website and game management. This person serves as the primary media contact for coaches and student-athletes and works continually to promote the image of Richmond Athletics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary athletic public relations contact for for women’s basketball and at least two additional sports assigned by supervisor by filling media requests, providing website and official social media updates, writing articles, producing recruiting materials, graphic design, video production and content creation, and recording and updating statistics in a timely fashion. Sport assignments are subject to change.
  • Responsible for all aspects of assigned sports game management to include coordinating with appropriate personnel for live video streaming; managing media requests, assigning personnel for in-game statistics, and producing game day programs.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating RichmondSpiders.com and official social media sites with all relevant coverage for assigned sports; including video, press releases, and record management.
  • Serve as the liaison between the local and national media and our student-athletes for all assigned sports.
  • Provides media coverage of community relations events conducted or attended by our athletic teams.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Should possess athletic public relations/communications experience, including media, publications, design, and game management skills at the college or professional level.
  • Excellent communications skills; Individual should have working knowledge of Mac operating system, video operation and editing software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro), Adobe InDesign; Adobe Photoshop; website publication tools; StatCrew and NCAA Live Stats.
  • Adherence to all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations is required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 1-3 years in college or professional athletic communications/public relations or video.

WORK HOURS:

  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; 7.75 hrs./day; 38.75 hrs./week
  • Some nights & weekends; some travel required
