Clinical Faculty Position in SA (MIS) Surgery

Location: Philadelphia , PA
Open Date: Jun 28, 2021
Deadline:

The Department of Clinical Sciences and Advanced Medicine at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a faculty position in Small Animal Surgery with an emphasis and focus on soft tissue minimally invasive surgery (MIS). This position will be in the Academic Clinician track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Academic Clinicians spend the majority of their effort in clinical service and clinical teaching endeavors. The position will focus on patient care, education of veterinary students, training of rotating interns and surgery residents, and supervision of veterinary nurses. Potential for collaborative research abounds, but advancement within this faculty track does not include a research requirement. Eighty per cent (80%) of the surgeon's time will be devoted to clinical service in MIS within the small animal soft tissue surgery service, with the remaining time dedicated to scholarly activity and administrative duties. In addition to working in a dynamic hospital setting with excellent support staff, the advantages of the position include an exciting intellectual environment with outstanding residents and faculty boarded in surgery, dentistry, critical care, anesthesiology, radiology, oncology, and internal medicine.

The Section of Surgery is currently staffed by 5 soft tissue and 3 orthopedic faculty, along with 3 surgery residents. The hospital has a state-of-the-art OR1 for minimally invasive surgery. This suite and intra-operative fluoroscopy (c-arm) allow for the most technologically advanced minimally invasive procedures to be performed, including laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and interventional radiology. Complementing this cutting-edge facility is our diagnostic imaging center (including MRI, CT, ultrasound, and stationary fluoroscopy), a rehabilitation medicine program, state-of-the-art emergency and intensive care unit, and a comprehensive cancer care service. Together these facilities and programs make Penn a center for innovation and discovery of new and advanced ways to treat complex disease conditions.

Applications will be accepted immediately and reviewed until an appropriate candidate is identified.
