The Development Associate supports and/or leads targeted projects in coordination with Chicago Booth Advancement team in the New York Regional Office (NYRO). Report to Director, Major and Principal Gifts, NY Region and collaborate with Senior Director and all gift officers in the NYRO to support the fundraising goals of the Booth Advancement Team.

The Development Associate provides information in response to specific requests, direct calls and other relevant information to appropriate individuals while using discretion and judgment with confidential information. He/she will develop a network of professional contacts and provide advisory assistance to other Booth and University offices that seek it. The Development Associate is encouraged to initiate projects that will be beneficial to the NY Advancement team, and is expected to anticipate next steps and follow-up related to fundraising activity and active prospect management.


Responsibilities include assisting with implementation of three-year regional strategic plan, planning and executing Advancement-focused events, and collaborating with University colleagues and volunteers to advance the philanthropic and engagement goals of Chicago Booth.

• Manage the operationalization and data governance of priorities for the Northeast region through the three-year regional strategic plan, partnering with New York-based gift officers to carry out the team's execution of these priorities;

• Lead the planning and execution of all New York-based advancement programming needs including deans’ and faculty events and the annual Economic Outlook dinner, serving as the primary liaison to the Alumni Relations events team; staff events as needed;

• Build and maintain an inventory of New York-based advancement events as well as Major Gift virtual events and contribute to the strategic development of new events and programs;

• Manage event follow-up with attendees and identify potential new prospects;

• Participate in prospect strategy development as it relates to prospect qualification, cultivation, stewardship, etc. and support gift officers with effective prospect qualification, cultivation and stewardship tracking and outreach, as needed;

• Manage all Booth leadership visits, creating travel itineraries and briefings for the deans, faculty and senior leaders when they travel to the New York, Boston, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. regions;

• Serve as liaison to the PhD Alumni Steering Committee, partner with New York-based gift officers and events team to source speakers, handle logistics and create briefings for faculty speakers for 3-4 events per year;

• In collaboration with the Prospect Management team, maintain and share relevant reports to assist gift officers with prospect identification, cultivation, and stewardship activities; run custom database reports upon request;

• Learn best practices for using our fundraising database to help track fundraising and active management results;

• Co-produce internal newsletter for the Chicago Booth Advancement team and annual east coast newsletter with the Communications team;

• Manage and disseminate online and print content relevant to giving priorities;

• In conjunction with the Development Associates in San Francisco and Chicago, continue to build and manage a set of internal communications for the major gift and leadership giving teams partnering cross-functionally with Communications, Donor Relations, and the Centers teams;

• Assist with other advancement-focused projects as needed;

• Manage all administrative duties in the New York Regional Office.

Travel to Chicago 2-3 times a year will be expected, and occasional travel to areas covered by the NY Regional Office may be required.


The Development Associate reports to the Director, Major and Principal Gifts, NY Region and takes direction from gift officers on the New York Major Gifts team.


1. Bachelor’s degree or higher required.

2. A minimum of one year of work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, or similar work required.

3. Interest in pursuing a career in development is preferred.

4. A strong commitment to customer service, proven track record of problem solving, and the ability to manage multiple projects and relationships required.

5. Excellent analytical skills required.

6. Strong verbal and writing skills, high attention to detail and follow-up, and excellent organizational skills required.

7. Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn the internal workings of the University and the technology tools available to Chicago Booth staff required, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Smartsheets required.

8. Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting required.

9. Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills characterized by the ability to listen, to speak, and to write well required.

10. Ability to learn and manipulate Booth databases required.

11. Ability to work independently required
