Departmental Objective:

Auxiliary Operations maintains the cleanliness and safety conditions of buildings and provides customer service to students, faculty, staff and guests.

Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the building manager of the Ferguson Center, DSU, Alumni House, & Commons through the Maintenance Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing all around maintenance and repair of all areas of the buildings on a daily basis. This position is responsible for ensuring that the buildings are well-maintained, clean and safe by performing maintenance tasks that are simple and some moderately complex in nature. This position is also available in an on-call capacity on an as-needed basis.

Required:

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, repair, and perform maintenance in various trades/utilities to include simple carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical work

Must have the ability to survey a room and assess damages and make repairs

Skilled in the use of hand and power tools

Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions

Ability to communicate effectively with others

Ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 50 lbs.

Must have the ability to answer routine questions and resolve problems

Ability to discern when to notify supervisor regarding complex questions or problems

Ability to prioritize work-orders

Must be able to occasionally work a flexible schedule for special events including the possibility of being called in after-hours due to the need of emergency repairs

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Required :

Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license.

Experience Required: Intermediate experience performing maintenance tasks in various trades to include simple carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and electrical. Experience using various power tools.

Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification Preferred :

Education Preferred: Vocational training in related trades.

Experience Preferred: Experience working in a university or office setting.

Conditions of Employment:

This is a classified position. New and returning classified employees are required to complete a 12-month probationary period;

Selected candidate must be able to occasionally work a flexible schedule for special events including the possibility of being called in after-hours due to the need of emergency repairs;

Selected candidate must have the ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 50 lbs.;
