Position Summary

The Digital Collections unit is responsible for the digitization, organization and discovery of the university’s archival and unique products. This unit manages and populates the university’s institutional repository including theses and dissertations, syllabi, course catalogs, student works and university archives images among other collections.

The Digital Collections Assistant creates metadata for the university’s institutional repository including university publications, theses and dissertations, syllabi, student and faculty works as well as audio/visual materials and images; quality control checks existing metadata records and makes corrections and alterations according to the unit’s standards; assists with the digitization of incoming archival and university materials; and quality control checks the work of student digitizers.

This is a part-time (0.5 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2022, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Completion of a high school education or equivalent certification plus two to three years of related library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with metadata.
• Experience with archives.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Experience in providing excellent customer service.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $1,623 (Part-time Salary Equivalent) per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,246 - $5,983 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
