Position description

The University of California, Irvine is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar full time to work on the Drawing Connections project in the School of Education. The postdoctoral scholar will support an IES funded grant to examine the roles of pressure and COVID-related anxiety on students’ higher-order thinking and mathematical learning. Salary and rank within the Postdoctoral Scholar series commensurate with experience. The appointment is for one year, with possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funding. Anticipated start date is October 1, 2021.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include supporting data coding, analysis, and dissemination for mathematics classroom experiments. Responsibilities also include managing undergraduate research assistants who will be responsible for data collection and data coding. More broadly, the position includes managing and preparing complex data sets for analysis; analyzing data from the experiments and related work; publishing and presenting findings; writing funding proposals to seek external support; consulting with and mentoring teams of graduate and undergraduate students; managing communication, training sessions, and dissemination of research results.

Requirements: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Education or a related field; particular expertise on topics related to STEM, math curricula, relational reasoning, or higher-order thinking. Extra consideration will be applied to candidates with expertise in research and evaluation of educational interventions; broad knowledge of quantitative research design, including experiments and power analysis; cleaning, coding, merging, and managing data; successful experience in development of survey measures; successful expertise in writing large federal grants; advanced expertise in academic writing and editing for peer-reviewed scholarly articles; successful experience in writing human subjects protocols; demonstrated ability to work well with others, including both receiving direction and providing direction; and expertise in leading research initiatives and teams.
