The Georgia College Advising Corps (GCAC) is a grant-funded near-peer college access program and a partner with the national non-profit College Advising Corps. Advisers work regular, full-time hours during the school year, following the high school/site supervisor’s schedule. Advisers will begin service in their assigned schools in August 2021 following summer training at UGA during the month of July, and work until May 31, 2022.Advertised Salary:

Work with high school juniors and seniors, providing them with information on the college admissions process, financing college, registering for and taking ACT/SAT exams, and completing college applicationsPercentage of time:

Complete all GCAC reports and projects as assigned. Track, using the College Advising Corps Student GRACE web-based system, all student interactionsPercentage of time:

Host college fairs and information sessions regarding college admission and financial aid.Percentage of time:
Conduct outreach to high school sophomores and freshmen to build interest and enthusiasm toward college. When possible, participate in extracurricular activities in the school/community in an effort to build relationships with students and parents.Percentage of time:
The Georgia College Advising Corps (GCAC) seeks service-minded recent graduates to lead low income, first-generation, and underrepresented students to college. We look for individuals from diverse backgrounds who are friendly, self-motivated, and passionate about our mission.
College advisers work alongside counseling staff in underserved public high schools throughout the state of Georgia. They assist students with navigating the college admissions process. This includes helping each student identify potential colleges, complete college applications, identify
financial aid and scholarship opportunities and complete forms and applications, prepare and register for college entrance examinations, and make informed postsecondary plans.
GCAC college advisers are members of the College Advising Corps and AmeriCorps servicemembers.Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position:
Advisers should have earned a Bachelor’s degree by July 2021 and should have graduated from high school between 2015 and 2018.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies :
Advisers should have a strong desire to serve and they should be able to work well with diverse populations.
To be successful in the role of college adviser, the following skills are necessary:
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to collaborate effectively with others to achieve goals.
Organization Skills: Ability to meet deadlines, plan events, and keep track of data and records.
Communication Skills: Ability to speak persuasively and tactfully, write professionally, and create multi-media texts such as flyers, presentations, and websites.
Problem-solving Skills: Ability to surmount challenges and solve problems creatively, ethically, and diplomatically as they help students navigate the college admissionsPhysical Demands:
