Position Summary

Student Athlete Support Services for MSU Athletics is search for a career services to provide on-site and virtual career advising and specialized programming for students-athlete by working in conjunction with athletic academic coordinators. This position will focus on advancing the career, academic and professional development of student-athletes, which will be done through strategic collaborations and by engaging the resources, programming, and services of SASS academic coordinators and the Career Services Network.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborates with SASS academic advisors to deliver comprehensive career services based on career interests, leading to academic major selection.
  • Connects student-athletes and recent alumni to the resources, programming, and services on-site and virtually.
  • Develop and implement specialized career education programming, resources and services. This includes guest lecturing in KIN171 (Athletics in Higher Education).
  • Coordinate experiential learning opportunities
  • Helps identify potential employers, jobs and internship opportunities.
  • Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

    Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired by completing a master's degree in education, counseling or related area; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in Human Resources and/or career counseling; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Desired Qualifications

    Master’s degree in a related field (i.e. Education, Athletic Administration, Human Resources); knowledge of career development and employer relations at the university level; one to three years of related work experience in academic and/or career counseling; experience working in intercollegiate athletics with student-athletes in a career or academic advising role or other career-related setting; excellent customer service skills and attitude; willingness to take initiative; desire and ability to build relationships and collaborate with other units on campus. Strong desire to work with university students on career development in an academic setting.
