Responsibilities:

The Transfer Advisor reports to the Director of Advising and Recruiting and will work with students preparing to transfer to a university upon completion of their coursework at Lamar State College Orange. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:1. Provide academic advising and support to current and prospective students planning to transfer to a university upon completion of their coursework at LSCO.
2. Advise students on aligning their career plans with appropriate Associate Degree and higher-level degree(s). 3. Prepare individualized degree plans and course mapping for students.4. Maintain LSCO’s transfer page on website and ensure all transfer agreements are accessible and up to date.5. Work as a member of the Lamar Link team to ensure LSCO students have a seamless transition through that program.6. Actively participate in LSCO’s efforts to maintain and improve our transfer pathways and curriculum work.7. Assist students in navigating the graduation and transfer processes.8. Provide advice and a knowledgeable source of referrals for campus support programs.9. Maintain student advising files.10. Advise students on and help navigate the process for drops, adds, and withdrawals.11. Participate in assisting the college to maintain standards required for accreditation.12. Advise other student populations, as needed.13. Perform other appropriate duties as may be determined by the Director of Advising and Recruiting.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in counseling, psychology, education, communication, or related fields preferred.

Experience in higher education environment preferred.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills required.Knowledge of computers, spreadsheets, and other data management systems required. Knowledge of academic advising techniques, the Texas State University System, and job placement is preferred.

Requires constant sitting, walking, and seeing. Requires frequent standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying objects up to 25 pounds; operating a calculator, personal computer, and various office equipment. Requires infrequent stooping, bending, sorting, and filing.

Normal office environnement.


This position is security-sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215.

Two-year academic programs are offered in business, communication, computer science, criminal justice, education, liberal arts, theater, natural science and sociology. These academic programs lead to associate of science degrees and will transfer to four-year institutions for students seeking baccalaureate degrees. Thirty technical programs are available, leading to associate of applied science degrees, certificates of completion and institutional awards. Some of these degrees include process operating and industrial technology, instrumentation, and medical office. Customized training programs to meet the needs of local business and industry and offered through the Continuing and Workforce Education Department.
