General Summary

The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality (EMDH) is one of 13 departments within the Division of Student Affairs. It provides the campus community and guests with high-quality, efficient, and innovative event services and dining options in a variety of settings dedicated to accentuating and enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community.

The Graphic Designer performs highly complex design duties for Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality (EMDH). This position will be responsible for creating and executing strategic marketing and graphic design projects compliant with University standards. It is essential that this person work closely and effectively with all marketing professionals within the Division of Student Affairs and the University whenever necessary and appropriate in order to accomplish the marketing goals of the department, the division, and the University. Additionally, the Graphic Designer will assign duties, approve work, and provide feedback to a Graphic Design student.

Required Qualifications

1. Any one or any combination that equals thirty-six (36) months from the categories below:

(a) credit for progressively more advanced college or art-school course work that would lead to a major in graphic/visual arts communication and/or design
- 60 semester hours equals 12 months
- 90 semester hours equals 24 months
- 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 36 months

(b) work experience and/or on-the-job training that provided a knowledge of progressively more advanced, generally accepted principles, theories, practices, and methods used in graphic designs and their applications to visual communications problems that are/is comparable to the training provided in the programs such as graphic/visual arts communication and/or design

*A Master's degree in visual design, with emphasis in visual arts communication or a closely related field, meets the requirements of this Minimum Acceptable Qualification.

2. Twenty-Four (24) months of graphic design experience comparable to that performed at the Graphic Designer Associate level of this series

Desired Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Arts Technology, Visual Communication, Web design, or related field.
2. Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite Knowledge of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop is critical. Thorough comprehension of graphic design as a communications discipline.
3. Ability to communicate professionally with diverse constituencies
4. Self-motivated and project oriented with an ability to think strategically.
5. Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to successfully coordinate and facilitate projects independently and with limited supervision.
6. Proven competence in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities.
7. Ability to build relationships, work effectively in a team environment, and to relate to a variety of clients and audiences.
8. Ability to use market research and approach marketing and communication challenges creatively in a high-energy, complex university environment.
9. Must be sensitive to multicultural issues and support the creation of a diverse environment.

Work Hours

Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.
