This position will work with faculty biostatisticians and faculty investigators within the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM), as well as within the Penn Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). The CFAR research network includes selected investigators outside of Penn, including within the Philadelphia Department of Health, as well as other CFAR-based staff, project managers, biostatisticians, and programmers. This position will work with faculty biostatisticians and faculty investigators within the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM), as well as within the Penn Center for AIDS Research (CFAR). The CFAR research network includes selected investigators outside of Penn, including within the Philadelphia Department of Health, as well as other CFAR-based staff, project managers, biostatisticians, and programmers.
This position will provide statistical support to biomedical research projects at the CFAR and PSOM more broadly including, but not limited to, clinical trials, observational studies and analysis of EHRs, claims, and registry data. This position will: assist study investigators in the areas of protocol development, study design, analysis plan, sample size / power calculations, and interpretation of study data; develop, design and write new and/or revised statistical programs and modeling based on requirements of ongoing research projects in a well-documented and reproducible fashion; prepare reports for Data Safety Monitoring Board meetings; conduct and interpret analyses of research data using descriptive statistics, basic inferential tests, and advanced statistical procedures; evaluate and ensure statistical integrity, accuracy and validity of research data; compiles results and provides statistical summaries and reports to principle investigators; assist with grant proposal preparation in study design, sample size calculations, and development of statistical analysis plans; assist with preparation of journal articles, technical reports and other materials for publication and presentation; manage biomedical databases for assigned research projects; read biomedical and statistical papers in order to evaluate and contribute to the selection of appropriate methodologies for research projects; and attend project meetings.
Duties may require the analyst to be physically present at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
Position is contingent upon funding.
Master's degree and 3-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required in biostatistics, statistics or related quantitative field with considerable knowledge and command of at least one of the following programming languages: SAS, or R. At least two years of experience as a biostatistician in managing large datasets and in utilizing statistical software packages preferred; experience preparing grant applications and writing research reports preferred. Additional experience or coursework in epidemiology, public health, biology or medicine is considered favorably.
The job pay range encompasses the full range of employees from new hires to the salaries of Penn employees with many years of experience and seniority and is not a precise indicator of salaries of new hires when looking at the top end.
