The Division of Hematology-Oncology in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is seeking applicants for a Project Scientist position at the Assistant, Associate, or full rank. This individual will work with Drs. Martina McDermott and Neil O'Brien, Adjunct Faculty in the Dennis J. Slamon TORL (Translational Oncology Research Laboratory) to help identify and validate novel therapeutic targets for pharmacological intervention using small molecule therapeutics. This position will be an addition to our existing team and allow us to more rapidly screen targets and identify projects for clinical development.
The primary duties/responsibilities of this position will include searching publicly available databases and literature for novel targets for small molecule therapeutics in cancer. Candidate will develop a research plan for the validation of these novel targets in vitro and in vivo. Specifically, this will involve using molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA/Protein isolation, RT-PCR, Western blotting, IHC, gene cloning, CRISPR and siRNA transfection to characterize role of the target gene/protein in cancer signaling. Candidate will prepare data presentations for weekly meetings with senior members of the drug discovery team. Candidate will also be expected to contribute to the management of a busy lab, including training of students and volunteer researchers and contribute to the preparation of research grants and publications. A Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. is required.
