UCSB Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is seeking an experienced psychologist to work with our student population. The successful candidate will bring generalist clinical skills and demonstrated expertise and understanding of working with Latinx students in clinical and outreach services. As well as expertise and ability to provide culturally appropriate therapeutic interventions in both Spanish and English.

Particular attention will be provided to those with demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Latinx Psychology and culture. The successful candidate will be committed to working with a diverse population of university students with a particular emphasis on Latinx students and students of color. Competitive candidates will have experience in university counseling centers, and crisis intervention experience.

 

Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program. A satisfactory completion of a fingerprint background check is required prior to the start of employment. Please see job posting for a full list of requirements.
 

Psychologists are expected to provide individual therapy and assess the appropriateness of a short-term therapeutic modality for students with serious psychological concerns. Clinical service expectations include the ability to provide culturally appropriate interventions for the assessment and provision of crisis intervention services, coordination of care with Student Health and provision of appropriate referrals. Psychologists must be able to develop and deliver psycho-educational programs to meet the special needs of underserved populations, particularly the Latinx and other historically marginalized student populations. Psychologists are expected to participate in campus organizations which have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and cultural issues and be able to approach clinical service provision from the perspective of Latinx Psychology and culture. Must be able to train and supervise staff, interns, practicum students, or peers as appropriate. Flexible hours within a 40-hour workweek will be considered.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA accredited doctoral program

• License to practice psychology in the State of California or eligible within 6 months

• Ability to be credentialed and privileged

• Thorough knowledge of applicable laws and standards of professional conduct

•Thorough knowledge of diagnostic / psychological testing methodologies

• Highly effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

• Thorough skills associated with conducting complex diagnosis, problem-solving and critical-thinking

• Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client group, members of the medical staff and faculty •

• Ability to conduct complex analysis and develop and present recommendations and course of treatment Knowledge of electronic / medical records systems

• Computer literacy

• Demonstrated experience working with Latinx communities

• Demonstrated knowledge of Latinx psychology and culture 

• Demonstrated ability to provide culturally appropriate therapeutic interventions

• Ability and experience in conduction Psychotherapy in Spanish
 

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated knowledge of psychology, community, and culture and/or experience providing counseling to communities with intersectional / interlocking identities including but not limited to Latino/Latina, Asian, Asian Pacific Islander, African American, Middle Eastern, International, and LGBTQIA+

 • Experience working in a university counseling center

• Experience with crisis intervention and/or coordination
