Occupational Summary

Duke University is seeking a qualified candidate to be a Sports Performance Coach working with Women’s Lacrosse and select groups within Track & Field. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, conducting, and monitoring sports performance programs for assigned Olympic sports student-athletes and teams.

Required Qualifications:

· Master’s or Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Biomechanics, Health Sciences or related field

· Current NSCA CSCS or CSCCa SCCC certification

· Minimum of 2-3 years as a full-time sports performance coach with an NCAA collegiate athletics department or professional sports organization

· Current CPR/First Aid Certification required

· The candidate must also possess strong organizational and communications skills

· Experience working with male and female athletes across a variety of teams in all areas of sports performance, including advanced speed development, weight training techniques, and energy system development programs

· An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in place of the requirements above

Essential Functions:

· Designing and implementing sports performance programs for Olympic Sports student athletes and teams as assigned by the Director of Sports Performance and Director of Olympic Sports Performance

· Assisting in scheduling teams for and monitoring and maintenance of the Scott Family Athletics Performance Facility

· Additional Administrative Leadership responsibilities assigned by Director of Sports Performance and Director of Olympic Sports Performance

· Participating in ongoing individual and group professional development activities

· All duties must be performed in compliance with NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations.

· Collaborating with athletic medicine, sports nutrition, and sports psychology/behavioral health staff to provide comprehensive support for the Duke student-athlete experience

Minimum Qualifications

Duke University was created in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a memorial to his father, Washington Duke. The Dukes, a Durham family that built a worldwide financial empire in the manufacture of tobacco products and developed electricity production in the Carolinas, long had been interested in Trinity College. Trinity traced its roots to 1838 in nearby Randolph County when local Methodist and Quaker communities opened Union Institute. The school, then named Trinity College, moved to Durham in 1892, where Benjamin Newton Duke served as a primary benefactor and link with the Duke family until his death in 1929. In December 1924, the provisions of indenture by Benjamin’s brother, James B. Duke, created the family philanthropic foundation, The Duke Endowment, which provided for the expansion of Trinity College into Duke University.Duke Campus

As a result of the Duke gift, Trinity underwent both physical and academic expansion. The original Durham campus became known as East Campus when it was rebuilt in stately Georgian architecture. Both men and women undergraduates now enroll in either the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences or the Pratt School of Engineering. In 1995, East Campus became the home for all first-year students.
