The Veterinary Medicine Library (VML) Student Assistant plays an essential role as the first point of contact for library access and research-related support to the College of Veterinary Medicine, located on the Centennial Biomedical campus. Is Time Limited:
Students in this role will work alongside librarians and library staff to provide patrons superior customer service while assisting with daily, routine library operations. Students will: answer queries via phone, email, and chat, check out materials, assist with troubleshooting technological issues, scan articles, shelve books, and conduct basic research to respond and refer reference questions. Students may also be responsible for opening or closing the library and other duties as needed. Some moderate lifting, up to 30lbs, may be required.
Work schedule will vary. Must have availability from 11am-5pm at least two weekdays for Fall 2021 semester, or availability to work nights and weekends during library hours:
Monday through Thursday: 5 pm -11pm
Friday 5pm -7pm
General Schedule Guidelines: Students can expect to be scheduled for mid-day, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, depending on their availability and VML staffing needs. Each student’s work schedule is generally set as 1-3 recurring shifts per week, depending on their availability and VML staffing needs, with the opportunity for additional hours by accepting shifts from their peers. The work schedule may vary occasionally and most likely during intersession and exam periods. Library operating hours are subject to change due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Dependable and punctual. Experience providing excellent customer service. Basic desktop computer skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills, including ability to understand needs of diverse users including faculty, staff, students, hospital clients and the general public. Flexibility and willingness to learn new information and take on new tasks. Knowledge of library services and resources is a plus but not required. Able to manage time and accomplish assigned tasks with minimum supervision.Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education:
Experience in customer service position or other situation involving assisting the public. Experience with searching online library catalogs or databases. Basic technological skills including an awareness of new and academic technologies.Required License or Certification:
