Visiting Faculty support student learning and academic success through teaching and proactive engagement, in alignment with Houston Community College’s learning-centered values and commitment to equitable student outcomes.

Visiting Faculty, will design learning opportunities for students and provide them with timely feedback. In addition to teaching fifteen contact hours each semester, Visiting Faculty will invest deeply in directed and focused student engagement. This will include meeting with students about course content and their progress, providing direct student outreach, issuing alerts based on key student indicators, and implementing other learning and retention strategies that assist students in attaining their educational goals. In addition to the formal course curriculum, the incumbents will engage directly with students and participate in the activities of the discipline, division, campus, and college. However, this role does not include committee service, governance, or other institutional operation functions or responsibilities. May be required to teach at various locations in the District.

This is a one-year temporary assignment to teach in the designated area.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    Prepare and deliver instruction to students in the face-to-face modality. Prepare instructional materials. Provide feedback on students’ progress, including evaluation of student mastery of course and program outcomes.

    Provide dedicated time for engaging students in matters related to academic success through student engagement hours and in other activities that support student learning.

    Engage in direct student outreach, issue alerts based on key student indicators, and implement other learning and retention strategies that assist students in attaining their educational goals.

    Prepare and submit required documentation including course syllabi, student attendance, final course grades, and other information as requested or required by the college.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATIONAssociate’s degree in Fashion Design or related field required.

Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE3 years industry work experience required.

RESTRICTIONNot eligible to teach overloads or adjunct assignments during the term of the assignment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    Knowledge and understanding of learning-centered values.

    Knowledge of strategies and methodologies related to student outreach, student engagement and student retention.

    Ability to develop and implement diverse teaching and learning strategies that promote active learning and that foster both acquisition and application of knowledge and understanding.

    Ability to use consistent, timely formative and summative assessment measures to enhance learning (Assessment).

    Ability to develop and implement learning opportunities that acknowledge, draw upon and are enriched by student diversity in the learning environment (Inclusion and Diversity).

    Ability to develop and implement learning opportunities that promote student life skills development while enhancing discipline learning.

    Ability to design and implement curriculum that intentionally leads students towards mastery of course and program outcomes (Outcomes-Based Practice).

    Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline and of teaching (Professional Commitment).

    Ability to continuously examine the effectiveness of one’s own teaching in teaching in terms of student outcomes and success.

    Ability to use technology for effective teaching and engagement in face-to-face, modality.

    Skill in the use of personal computers, teleconferencing and general office software.

    Ability to effectively communicate interpersonally (in group and one-on-one settings), orally, and in writing.
