Position Summary

Enrollment Services is comprised of Admissions, Office of Evaluations, Office of the Registrar, Graduate Admissions, Prospective Student Services, and Communications. The goals of Enrollment Services are to implement SDSU enrollment management policies and to provide services to students from their initial point of interest in SDSU to their graduation. The incumbent will be part of an Enrollment Services unit which is primarily responsible for specialized and out-of-state recruitment.

Under the direction of the Director of Out-of-State and Specialized Recruitment, the Admissions Counselor is responsible for independently scheduling and carrying out strategic admission recruitment activities to targeted areas within the United States. Activities to be carried out include admission presentations, application workshops, college fairs, high school visits, virtual programming, and on-the-road events, as well as other recruiting events. These activities are conducted virtually, on the SDSU campus as well as in various targeted states to which the incumbent must travel off campus.

The Admissions Counselor advises prospective students and families on the admissions requirements, application process, services on campus and other University related information. The Admissions Counselor also responds to questions from high school counselors related to the admission process and maintain positive relationships with assigned targeted states.

The Admissions Counselor plans, coordinates, and facilitates strategic large and small scale events for targeted student populations and families. The incumbent is responsible for all facets of the program, including collaborating with SDSU faculty, staff, students, and other SDSU offices, and providing detailed data and reports to the Director of Student Recruitment and School Relations.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown below may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Experience using computer programs SIMS/R, Singularity, Mozilla Thunderbird, and Gmail.
• Knowledge and use of a CRM to track leads and communications.
• Knowledge of SDSU’s policies and procedures and the SDSU general catalog.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of CSU and SDSU selective admissions requirements including the UC a-g subject list and the CSU Admissions Handbook.
• Knowledge of SDSU departments and student services such as Financial Aid, Housing, Academic Advising and Evaluations, EOP, and student life.

Specialized Skills 

• Travel outside of California required.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,304 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,304 - $6,120 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
