Job Summary:

Ensuring accessible textbooks for students with alternate print needs.

Essential Functions:

Meet with students, faculty and potentially parents to determine alternate text format needs in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Provide alternate text for students with disabilities granted accommodations.

Provide alternate text options for student testing.

Work with disability services agencies and outside community providers to find alternate text resources or to provide support to those agencies/community providers, i.e. Iowa Department for the Blind.

Teach students how to use equipment and Kurzweil as needed.

Download Kurzweil to personal student equipment as needed.

Work with other campuses to ensure alternate text format accommodations are met district-wide.

Develop alternate textbook procedures and maintain Textbook Services manual and website.

Maintain appropriate equipment needs.

Encourage independent student learning and academic responsibility.

Maintain confidentiality and FERPA.

Work directly with the Disability Services Coordinator as needed.

Work with co-project coordinator within a job sharing environment.

Required Qualifications:

Good communication skills.

Flexibility and ability to work independently.

Basic computer skills to include Microsoft suite.

Ability to work for long times at the computer.

Ability to establish and maintain a professional working relationship with a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to support faculty and DMACC policies and procedures.

Desired Qualifications:

Familiarity with accessible computer software, such as Kurzweil.

Familiarity with textbook platforms such as Vital Source and Red Shelf.

Experience working with diverse populations.

Experience in a community college or other educational setting.

Familiarity with the ADA and Section 508 and federal copyright laws.

Good computer and networking skills in relation to assistive technology.

Flexibility in scheduling through job sharing.
