The Department of Surgery, Division of Transplant Surgery is hiring a full-time (1.0 FTE) Professional Research Assistant. This position will be responsible for performing diverse responsibilities requiring sound judgment and knowledge of all study specific protocols. The research services intermediate professional (RSIP) must maintain the utmost integrity, the highest moral standard and strict and compulsive attention to detail.  The RSIP will educate, consent, and enroll research subjects, maintain accurate, confidential files and documentation of study subjects per protocol requirements, perform protocol specific procedures, obtain, organize and store tissue samples, and assist co-workers with like duties.

Specifically, this RSIP position will be collaborating with Dr. Trevor Nydam and Dr. Hunter Moore on the following project conducting laboratory procedures on Transplant patients. The research projects on studying coagulation of organ donors and recipients will be focused on studies of platelet dysfunction and fibrinolysis. The RSIP will be intimately involved with liver and kidney transplant research.



Duties include:

  • Collecting, processing, and storing blood and other tissue samples for future research use (tissue bank)
  • Perform viscoelastic coagulation testing (TEG, ROTEM, aggregometry, etc)
  • Occasional delivery and processing of samples to collaborating centers nearby research centers.
  • Developing and maintaining research databases, including completion of all necessary research recordkeeping and documentation and timely data entry
  • Helping to organize and maintain tissue bank repository of collected tissue samples in 80 C freezer
  • Abstracting data from patient charts and electronic medical records
  • Validating quality of data elements/data management
  • Evaluating consistency of medical data
  • Screening, consenting and enrolling study participants (under the direction of senior research staff)

Salary Range

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $48,830 - 49,344.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
