The University of Florida College of Medicine, based in Gainesville, Florida, invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of Community Health and Family Medicine (CHFM). Rank and Tenure status will be commensurate with qualifications

The Department of Community Health and Family Medicine (CHFM) at the University of Florida College of Medicine has 52 faculty members and fellows and 27 residents.  CHFM has a robust and expanding clinical enterprise.  The department's nine clinics provide services to rural patients and smaller communities (Old Town, Starke, Lake City), safety net patient populations (Main and Eastside), as well as traditional community-based clinics.  The practice sites provide approximately 132,000 patient visits annually.  UF Student Health adds an additional 38,000 patients visits annually.  In addition to their outpatient practice clinics, the department covers 28 beds on an inpatient service that is mainly populated by patients associated with the departmental practices.  Clinical revenues are approximately $25 million.  The UF College of Medicine, the largest of six colleges at the University of Florida Academic Health Center, is ranked #18 in public medical schools by U.S. News & World Report and is home to thousands of faculty, students, and staff committed to improving the health and well-being of people across the globe.

Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine, the Chair will address a wide range of opportunities and challenges to meet the UF COM’s aspirations, including deliverables pertaining to access and delivering care to the underserved population through equity creation and community engagement; development of clinical services via multidisciplinary care teams and a primary care backbone for a community based, population health approach to delivery; and innovative approaches to education as well as scholarly activity. The Chair will oversee residency programs, fellowships, and an active undergraduate educational program.  The Chair also oversees the Department’s clinical activities, with responsibility for their success in the marketplace and for achieving the delivery of high quality and cost effective care. 


Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have a current academic rank of at least Associate Professor of Medicine along with a distinguished record of teaching and clinical care in a community medicine environment.  Candidates should have demonstrated success as a leader of a Department or Division of Family Medicine, of an interdisciplinary institute, or an academic entity of comparable size and scope.  The ideal candidate will have experience in the development and successful implementation of new clinical programs and services. Candidates must be an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D., be board certified in Family Practice, and eligible for licensure in Florida.  A distinguished record of innovative leadership, scholarly accomplishments, and excellence in administration is sought and management education or training is highly desired.
